I wish I had a bigger freezer! This is my go to for most of my fruit and veg that I plan to use in warm dishes or for smoothies. I live in the UK and our produce goes bad fast so this method has been essential on cutting down on food waste

I only just got mine and can say while I always made do with what I had, the upgrade is nice! Not 100% necessary if you aren't growing your own food to preserve though.

You don’t have to blanch the kale first?

You can, but if you're freezing a small amount and going to use within a month or two it's not necessary. I mostly use my frozen kale in smoothies so I like to keep it uncooked.
