How to re-press matte eyeshadow without alcohol or binder.

If you've ever broken a matte shadow and felt sinking dread that it's gone forever, fear no more! I've made a tutorial on how to save or re-pan your matte eyeshadows: no alcohol required.

Please share with anyone whose makeup may need this fix! ~Gina

/**TRANSCRIPT**/

TUTORIAL: How to re-pan matte eyeshadows. Featuring Sugarpill Love+

STEP ONE: Remove the product from the pan. No need to be delicate! Just dig it out. There's nothing you can do here to ruin it.

STEP TWO: Grind the product into a fine powder. You can use a knife, credit card, or mortar and pestle. A knife is less messy, but a mortar/pestle makes drier formulas easier to grind.

As you near the end, look out for fine, hard clumps. They will crunch when pressed and may roll around. It's important to crush as many of these as you can. They will stay hard in the pan and cause the shadow to crumble out.

STEP THREE: Move the product into the pan. Sweep the powder onto a smooth piece of paper and fold it in half to make a funnel.

Before pouring, place your pan onto a second piece of paper.

Pour/tap the product from the taco into the pan. Don't worry about excess. Then tap the product down lightly with a flat edge.

STEP FOUR: Press layer 1. Grab a flat disc slightly smaller than the pan and set it lightly inside. You can use a magnetic sticker or the bottom of another pan.

Once you've got it lined up, press down firmly. For shadows, press with your fingers and wrist. For blushes, use your arms and shoulders.

After a few seconds, dump the disc out. Your first layer is done.

STEP FIVE: Press layer 2. Using the excess from before, repeat steps three and four to press a second layer into the same pan. I only recommend pressing two layers.

After this, give your pressed shadow a quick swatch to ensure it's pressed to your liking and there's no crumbling. Then revel in your success.
For this session, I repanned 3.5 grams of Sugarpill's Love+ into two 26mm pans. It took me about 20 minutes, or 10 minutes per pan, which is my typical type to repan a shadow.
Dry-pressed mattes do not crack or dry out.
So far, I've had a 100% success rate using this method. I've also used it to save shadows from alcohol.
Thank you to Kristen Leigh of Kristen Leigh Cosmetics for suggesting dry pressing to me.
Go forth and repan! #RepanRevolution.

Hey Y'all! I know I've been gone for forever, and, sadly, I'm not exactly back. I've moved my content-making over to Instagram (come follow me!) for the most part, but I have made some videos there that I think would be very helpful to be on KZbin, so I'm uploading them here as well.
Let me know what you think!

Thank you so much for this video! I thought my matte blush was a total goner after trying to repress it twice with alcohol. It kept cracking again as it dried out with that method but pressing it dry made it as good as new! My pan was square, so I cut out a piece of coated cardboard to fit inside of it.

Why do shimmer eyeshadows work well with alcohol and mattes ones don't?
@FacesByGina
@FacesByGina 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have an exact answer for you, but here is what I do know: 1. Adding alcohol helps shimmers press because it helps reduce the space between the particles and lets it smush together. Not all shimmers need this; the denser/creamier the shimmer, the more likely it is you can re-press it without alcohol. 2. I believe that mattes crack when you use alcohol because the product condenses as it dries. As it condenses, it pulls away from itself (cracking) and from the pan (so often times it will fall out) The actual mechanisms that lead to these results, I'm not 100% sure on, but those are the ideas/what I've discovered in my year and a half pressing eyeshadows myself. I hope it's at least somewhat helpful!

Ok I'm bk lol just pressed 3 pans this way and I dropped them intentionally shadow side down from about 6" up about 6-7x ea and they all stayed intact. Figured that might help anyone who like me, long doubted this technique as it uses only pressure no binder. Ps-I think it is essential to press in layers as she shows...minimum 2-3.

@FacesByGina
@FacesByGina 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends. Sometimes there's just not enough pigment in the powder, and repressing it won't help. However, if it's just pressed too hard and you're having trouble getting product on the brush, it may help. Either way, it can't hurt it, so I'd say try it out on a shade and see how it goes

I've been looking for a video that helps with application of Pressed Flakie formulas, like from Copacetic Cosmetics. Does anyone have tips & tricks for different application methods on this? Or know of a good video that shows this? They are so beautiful but I don't want the built up super chunky look. Is there a good way to shear it out, but with also getting a detailed application? Help Me 🥺

That stain on your sleeve. Yeah. That's like my carpet right now. Lol. Poor thing needs to be doused in makeup remover & blotted to death. Maybe this weekend. Quick question though: If I've already repressed with alcohol (some even with extra binder) do you think this method will still work? Just curious. I might be adventurous and repress my odd-ball shaped pans into 26mm if I become ambitious enough one of these days. And yes, the chopping was totally satisfying to watch. 😀
