Mind = blown. Had Sir William Buthorn for 6 years and he got jammed and would not work. Our relationship ended and I felt I was seeing other pencils. It was clearly an unhealthy relationship. I was devasted and william started rusting and hanging out with other broken pencils. It was a bad crowd for him. I felt like his life was heading to the garbage. Now that have seen this video William has made a full recovery. Now I can use him where ever. I'm not ashamed to take him out in public cuz our relationship is not in a ..... jam anymore but I think we have made our.. point. 😄 so to.. draw a conclusion we have a healthy relationship and the future can be... written to our desires. Sometimes jams can further back in the channel that those tiny lead jam clearing rods just won't reach. I've found the perfect remedy for that -- piano wire. The thinnest come in a diameter that is smaller than 0.5mm, so you can get a segment of that and snake it through the channel. This is essential for clearing up lead dust that may have caked up in the channel, as will tend to happen with older pencils.

If the lead is jammed in tight, a clearing rod simply will not work. The solution is to use a sewing needle (a proper tool) which is MUCH tougher than the flimsy cleaning rods. The needle should be ROUGHLY THE RIGHT DIAMETER (0.5/0.7 etc) in order to keep it straight when you pass it through the tip-guide. Whilst keeping the button depressed, use the needle's notoriously sharp & hard point to gradually destroy the lead until it all shakes out as dust. When the needle will pass right though the clutch AND you can see light right through the pencil, thoroughly clean it out tapping it a few times to shake the dust free. BLOW THROUGH THE PENCIL WHILST OPENING AND CLOSING THE CLUTCH A FEW TIMES, and it should be as good as new. With a cheap pencil you have a small risk of damaging a plastic clutch but most good pencil clutches are metal.

That's usually really bad news. It probably means you have a clutch not fully engaging, or really heavy coating of lead dust on the clutch. If you can replace the mechanism, that is the best option. Of course, not all pencils allow that.

I know this comment is old but you can take a twist tie that you can get at your local grocery store and remove the outside paper until you uncover a tiny thin rod. Or you can use a single staple. So you have to stick it in the tip of your pencil and try to push out the lead. Push as hard as you can. Once the rod goes through then take out the extra pieces of lead form the Bach of your pencil.
