In the olden days , burning potato peelings was how they controlled the creosote problem . It really works . But , all stacks should be cleaned with the proper size cleaning brush every season .

A rocket heater or rocket mass heater burning dry wood eliminates almost all creosote. Also, it uses about 1/8th the amount of wood as a typical woodstove.

Full masonry is just the best i had mine clean and its a 3 story chimney it did have a slight crack at the very top the guys said in all reality your chimney is so overbuilt with stone i wouldnt worry the industry standard frowns on that but the brick is so thick and so many layers the whole run from bottom to top i am not worried in the olden days that was all that was used. And with the fresh air intake the air is whipping so quick threw it it is unbelievable. It probably happened from heating the flue to fast i can go from no fire to a ranging fire in minutes i wish i knew when i got the house to heat the flue slower. Oh well live and learn i guess. But ya dont dampen fires yes it slows the burn but slow burn is a dirty one. Amd good dry hardwoods is a must no damp crap wood.

Burn only dry hard wood with an epa stove. Lowest creosote. + use double walled insulated SS flue from the flashing of roof to the sky.. In doors can be single wall

Wet wood! Avoid wood that is more than 20% moisture content. And avoid slumbering the fire for long periods at low temperature

The hotter I burn my fire the less creosote build up I experience

When you "run the fireplace hot", you risk overheating the frame and surrounding areas of your fireplace. In a worst-case scenario, it could spew hot ash onto the roof of your home and cause a fire. So, it's a better idea to do regular cleaning to get creosote out rather than run it hot to "burn it out".

Season your wood for 29 years and you’ll be fine.
