That was extremely educational. I didn't realise that diesel fuel could get that dirty. I recently discovered this educational series and am finding it so useful.

We had a problem on our Bavaria 38 with diesel bug few years back and we installed a fuel polisher. Unfortunately the diesel bug problem was bigger than the fuel polished could handle so we had to internally clean the tanks. We were lucky to find a company in Australia that manufactures diesel tank inspection hatches (I think they are called Clean Diesel Australia or something like that). Once the tank was clean the fuel polisher kept it clean so far.

Great vid, does the fuel polisher actually get rid of the diesel bug or does it just not let it through?!

Does it actually polish the fuel and if so, could you please explain how id polisher works. (I.e. is it a centrifuge?) Many thanks

I don't understand this. What's the difference between this and the standard primary and secondary fuel filters attached to the engine?

This you can do it without having the engine on. So when you do a bit maintenance of your boat you can "polish" the fuel, so when you use the engine filters they dont get clogged fast.

What he says in the video is that the pump is the pump on the engine, that this is a mock-up and that it is taking fuel from the tank and sending clean fuel to the engine. Nowhere does he say this is a stand alone system taking fuel from the tank, cleaning it and sending it back to the tank. What he is saying us what the fuel pump and filters do on any engine.

The secondary and primary filters on your engine are 15 microns at the smallest. Besides not having to push that dirty fuel through your expensive primary and secondary filters You can use a relatively inexpensive 2 micron filter. More economical plus better filtration. These systems are set to run periodically, perfect for boats that sit, or especially sailboats who have very low fuel consumption. 20 gallons could last you all year.

@@philipdonegan9716 This is a fuel polishing system not a mock up this acts similar to your boat system however it just recirculated the fuel

Great video Joe, Where did you obtain the filtering device with the name Landau and what was the approximate cost? I have contaimination in a truck tank and want a permanent solution to keeping the fuel clean, since I have already damaged injectors after a fuel filter failure on the engine. Thanks in advance.
