Hi Great informative video we are thinking about getting a water softner in a new house we are moving to, but it has septic tank? I have read lots of contradicting stuff about allowing a softner to discharge into a septic tanks, what is your view?

May I know how the water pipe as shown in the beginning of the video can be protected from clogging after installing your softening system? It looks like the pipe will still be clogged before the water can be softened

I doubt it will get clogged because hard water reacts when being heated. A water softener removes calcium and magnesium minerals from the water therefore limescale is not produced when the water is heated. Water softeners also help keep skin soft when showering and is great for people with eczema too. But unfortunately the cold supply to the kitchen sink by law (the pipe you talk about) cannot be provided with a water softer due to the possibility of back flow contamination as we use it to drink and restaurants use it to wash plates etc. That's why kettle's get limescale because we heat it from our kitchen tap.

But you said and showed on your diagram the softner system was on the main pipe after the sink, with the sink not on the protected system.

An electrolytic inhibitor simply prevents calcite crystal to stick to the plumbing system by turning the crystals to aragonite, it doesn't soften the water whatsoever.

Magnetic inline ones are not tested or verified independently in anyway! Sounds like a con to me.
