Very on time for me. I’ve just been tired of all the snow and darkness. Indoor running on the treadmill is what I’ve been doing but only as a “must” with not that much joy. Can’t wait for spring and longer days.

I needed this video...thank you! I felt burnt out after ending the year chasing my 1000 mile year-end goal. I had to run a lot more in November and December to hit it. After hitting the goal I felt empty. No drive to run. My running decreased drastically in January and I got injured. I’m feeling better now and started a Garmin 1/2 marathon plan to better my PB by 5 minutes. I hope my drive stays with me throughout the training block. I look forward to future vlogs.

I'm struggling with recovering from Covid. I didn't have it too bad, but enough to stop running. I finished 2020 with back-to-back weeks of 52 miles and 58 miles. I'm having a tough time getting motivation to start up again. This may not be burnout but instead the effects of being sick. Either way, I think I'm going to find a spring race to train for to try and get my mojo back.

Tell me about it. I'm in Norway and are currently having to run in -20C at the moment. I just turned 40 and just started running a couple of months ago. My trick is wearing spiked shoes, merino on feet, legs and top, wind proof layer, a woolen buff and mittens. During my 45-60 minutes runs, I will regularly have to remove my mittens, because I get too hot. For me the worst is actually getting out there in the first place. As soon as I get going, I'm fine. So I kinda trick myself and commit to a 5k run, which is approximately 1 lap on my "track". But when I get there, I just pass that point and continue running. I was shooting for a long run yesterday, but my calf was actually hurting, so I stopped at 9.5k. But hey, I got out there and at this point, any run is better than nothing. Not training for a competition or marathon or anything like that - I just figured I needed to do this for my health.

I can’t tell if I’m burned out or if I just don’t want to run the deep snow. Makes me feel like such a fucking loser.

Thanks for this, coach! With this thoughtful discussion in mind, do you have experience with the 26 week long “4 Week Cycles” marathon program in Daniels’ Running Formula? Every 4th week of the program is exclusively easy miles, which I would imagine would mitigate the risk of burnout at least a little. I’m curious about your thoughts on the risk of burnout with a program of this duration. Thanks for your time and all your hard work!

Training for Berlin sept 23. Need to know if I should peak in April taper and go at it again, or base build to 50-55 miles until May. My base now is 40-45 miles. Goal is sub 3:30 an 8min PR for a BQ

You have time to train for two races. One in the spring, one being Berlin

Fueling is very important. You run low on glucose and those mental signs start to appear.

I burned out in 2018 and took off for 3 years I’ve been running for 7 months and I’m having fun again. Miles are 40-50 a week consistently. There was a time when I thought I may never run again. I’m not a animal lol. I’m a social human being.

@@StrengthRunning ive watched hundreds of videos, listened to 100 podcasts all on the topic. Even seen a physical therapist, i do mibility work and strength work for about 2 hrs every day. I just cant seem to kick this posterior tibial issue. I love running but im starting to resent people who can run. Its a real bummer! In my last comment i was venting and nobody deserves that nonsense. Thanks for your efforts!
