Just wanted to say thank you for the videos. I have spent the last 3 months or so watching videos of the various pellet smokers. Yours have been very informative. Decided on the Yoder 640s and purchased this weekend. Spent Saturday putting together, doing the burn in, and seasoning. Your videos were very helpful. I did purchase the grease shield as well after watching and reading comments. Keep up the good work.

I still have yet to do a brisket, but will do one soon. Check out my unboxing video, the 3rd chapter goes over seasoning. Make sure you do that on the inside. That will put any rust issues on the inside to rest. On the outside I would check out the links under this video and give any spots a sanding and then a spray with the paint it comes with. Then apply this product. Some rust is expected, but this product is supposed to really help. Feel free to email me with any questions. Email is in the bottom of the description.

Subscribed, thumbs up and now patiently waiting. 👍 also any recommendations on a pair of good grill gloves?
Has anyone looked into trying one of those nanoceramic or graphene wipe-on coatings? I looked into a couple, and some of them can withstand over 1000°F. My Yoder 640s is coming in the spring, and I was thinking about coating it with one of them; if not, I will definitely try the ACF spray.

It’s a big challenge to have steel not rust. The paint does well, but this is something they found that works even better. It’s been sometime since I did this video and there isn’t a spot of rust on it right now. Will be doing an update at the year mark.
@tydegaming96272 жыл бұрын
Oh I completely agree, but running at 5200 aud the word season shouldn’t be a thing. A Weber q is 1/10th of the cost and I’ve had 3 outside and not found a spec of rust is all I mean. I would love to upgrade to a high end pellet smoker but the proven less Smokey flavour among other reasons will push me towards a joe or the egg.
@RumandCook2 жыл бұрын
Well remember you aren’t comparing apples to apples. Steel is prone to rust. Just drive around and look at offset smokers and you will see many are rusting. Just the nature of the beast. I originally had issues with a bad run of covers that let a lot of moisture in and it just sat on it. Also the front is know for having rust because meat juices and various sauces are acidic and will eat the paint if not cleaned properly. The front guard is a must have and does a great job at protecting it. All this being said, a KJ is in a different class. You will most certainly get more smoke and more versatility out of one of those over a pellet smoker. If I could have only one smoker it would be my Komodo Kamado. Everything from smoked food to pizza is amazing. I do use my Yoder a lot though. Marinated chicken is awesome because you can do high temp with no flame contact. Turns out crazy juicy chicken. I’d def get a KJ over an egg. I had a KJ for several years and loved it. You get a lot out of the box with one. Egg you get the basics for more money.
@tydegaming96272 жыл бұрын
@@RumandCook I’m actually sad about choosing a kj over a pellet, that’s why I’m looking at yoder videos to get me over the line but 1 step forward 2 back. Great video.Why don’t Yoder use the same enamel paint Weber use on all of their BBQ’s. I have 2 Weber’s over 12 years old and no rust.
@RumandCook2 жыл бұрын
The issue is that steel rusts very easily. They didn’t want to power coat it because if you scratch that, you can’t repair it and then rust would spread quickly. They wanted a high temp paint that resisted moisture, didn’t fade easily, and was easy to repair. The great news is, I’ve put a couple coats of ACF-50 on now, coming up on a year, and not one speck of rust! I’ll be doing a follow up video at the one year mark. Thanks for watching!

I just ordered the ACF - 50. Thanks for this video it really helps. I recently had my Yoder 640 built into my outdoor kitchen which is under a covered patio. My question is with using these products without illuminate the need for the canvas cover? I did purchase that before I had it built-in but now it does not fit properly. And quite frankly it looks kind of ugly so I hoped to keep the cover off if these products will help prevent any rust. I do live in south Texas on the coast where it is very humid. Hey Jake, awesome video as always! For the New Yoder owners, would you recommend first to do a burn-in and then seasoning and then perform rust prevention or would you prefer to do that in a different order?
@RumandCook Жыл бұрын
I’d recommend doing rust first. That way weather can’t surprise you and you will have that covered before it sits outside too long. Yoder now says you can use mineral oil as well to rust proof. Season and burn in I think you can combine in one step. Don’t get too crazy with oil inside. A little goes a long way. Also if you do a couple of pork butts first cook it will help season as well. 🍻

@RumandCook3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, they are 10 gauge steel and will require some additional maintenance. Rather than powder coat which you can’t do a clean repair on, they went with a matte paint so you can just sand and make it never anytime you want. In my case, it was looked after well and covered all the time. It had a very high level of rust for being less than 2 years old. They felt it was a paint defect and offered to replace it. That being said, using this product almost eliminates the rust issue. Can’t go wrong with a brisket. Thanks for watching!

For what they charge for these grills Yoder can use a better type of paint to eliminate rusting....
@RumandCook3 жыл бұрын
They’ve actually spent a ton on RD for paint. The goal is to strike a balance between being able to handle the heat, being fade resistant, and easily repairable. I thought the same until I called them to learn more. Steel naturally rusts and the pits have a 10 year warranty on them. They want you to be able to spend a little time and be able to make it look like brand new anytime you want. If it was coated you couldn’t do that. This process in the video really helps and you only have to do a couple times a year. I’ll be closely monitoring it and sharing an update in a few months. Thanks for watching.
