I believe under inflation is the #1 tire killer. So much sidewall flex as the tire rotates builds excessive heat leading to a blowout.

100%. That and trying to save a few $ by buying cheaper tires with less plies that can’t support the weight. Especially during hot summers when tire temps go up.

2 more tips Sir, i have towed a trailer a ton of miles behind a Toter and I feel if you have a 3 axle trailer you should have 3 spares, especially if you have aluminum rims because you can have a blow out on the 1st and not realize it until the broke chunks from the wheel wipe out the next 2, easy to do pulling with a toter or motorhome also on 1 of the spares have a hub/drum bolted to it with packed bearings, seal, nut and dust cover, Eventually, you will have a bearing problem on the road.

A tire pressure monitor system is also a great option. I have one and it tells me the pressure and temperature of each tire

Another tip for tandem and triple axle trailer hauling is if your loaded down try and keep the trailer straight as you can behind the towing vehicle. Tight prolonged slow speed turns where you can watch the tires fold under the rim on the trailer are hard on the axles.. of course having the proper load rated tires helps with this..

I have made it a habit of checking each tire at the bead with a infrared thermometer every time I stop, changing a tire of the traffic side of I-95 is no joke.

I've heard a certain street outlaw talk about driving 85-90 MPH, do you think he ever checked the speed rating of his tires especially the steer tires 😮 this person always has blowouts and axle bearing issues, i guarantee most people don't check tire pressure which is the number 1 reason for blowouts, i hope everyone follows your recommendations John i agree with every one of them, 30yrs experience as an O/O.

Another thing you could do is do a health and rehydration suggestion on how to stay healthy as hot as its been on us while traveling to and from events plus while inside the car awaiting passes in our suits etc, personal health all this, sleep and eating etc is a big major factor in winning and competitive rounds, trust me I know about the sleep deprivation and fatigue plus the body fitness is a key in ability to compete, (Ever heard the phrase that sometimes the faster car don't always win? Well speaking from experience (I've lost races in the past because I had to learn the most important part of your car and your program is yourself and the howto's) and turbo john is the perfect candidate to make a video on how to retain health during and planning events! Thank you sir and I hope you speak on this to help our people of the racing family! Sincerely MoodyblueMotorsports Rome Ga Dewayne Knowles,,,

Are you sure you're the best one to make this video?? :) You can level up with a wireless TPMS for the trailer. I have been having good luck with the Tymate Tire Pressure Monitoring System - M7-3 TPMS. After too many tire issues over the years I have one running on the truck and one for the trailer. So much more peace of mind.

Thank you sir, I have not had a trailer tire failure in years by doing this. RV tires, now that’s a different story!

Biggest problem i see on open trailers are people will drive all way to the nose of the trailer, the rear tires of the car between the trailer axles and the front of the car is hanging over the tongue making the truck/trailer sag in a V. I guess they dont realize the trailer is there to haul the weight of the car and not the truck hitch/trailer tongue, just center the weight and pull up 6-12” to have a little tongue weight and ride. TPMS kits now are available bluetooth thru an app to monitor tire pressure and temperature on your phone with programmable warnings so if folks are into extra gadgets there you go John another thing that helps is run the tire 5-10psi lower than max pressure if not loaded heavy, that gives the air room for expansion without over pressurizing the tires when they riding on these hot ass roads as they have been lately.

Big problems people who tow and don’t know why they have tire problems. How many know how much their loaded trailer weighs? What is their unloaded weight? What is their tongue weight? Are their tires rated for the weight they are carrying? A weight on a CAT scale costs $15.00. Answers all the above questions. Learn how to tell date codes on your tires. Replace your tires at DOT recommended interval of six years. Just an old mans thoughts. My trailers gross weight is 15,400 lbs. tongue weight is 3400 pounds. GCVW on my rig is 25450 lbs. truck weight is 10,000 pounds loaded with 93 gals of fuel and three people onboard. Tires on trailer are load range G and are inflated to 110 psig. Knowing your rig and it’s weight helps to solve problems before they happen. And yes I’ve had a blowout last year. Did over $5,000 worth of damage to my fifth wheel RV. Things just sometimes happen.

They say in the when you when you’re towing your trailer, they say drive 5 miles an hour slower and why they tell you that is in the book that I do when I take the camper mine I know that my truck can tow that camper now it’s no problem with thatCamper but when you go over the speed limit, you’re gonna get run over you’re gonna run over and I tell you my cousin told me if you if you drive slower they’re gonna run you over just to let you know that he drives slower they’re gonna they’re gonna run you over

Here’s what I do to prevent blow outs 1 never eat at chipotle 🤣 Ok seriously I use nitrogen to fill my trailer tires also in my tow rig never any increase in air pressure due to heat

Put Michelins on it. No chinese junk. The tires cause too much damage when they blow out. It costs way more to fix the damage from a blown out tire than the tire costs.

Carry TWO spare wheels and tyres, more so on long trips. Murphys Law if you have one you will need 2. If you have two you will never need one!! Pressures are essential. Load max pressure always. Empty the trailer will bounce a bit and if travelling distance empty let them down,, then inflate before loading again. Proper light truck tyres,, and suitable rims. no wanker low profile ones. A basic tandem trailer carrying a fairly light car needs mininum 185x14C LT tyres. 102 load rating. 195x14C 104 load is better. Personally these days I use 215x65x16 108 load. A bit more safety though my car. trailer and spares is pushing 3 ton. Open trailer . Another advantage of rocker springs is the trailer tilts as the car goes back making it easier to get off. 1350kilo car. At least 6 wheels on the tyre rack, spare brake rotors, gearbox and sometimes a bare Salisbury diff. Plus jacks, stands, tarps etc. Road race car. Load sharing rocker springs are really essential,, they ride far better and are a LOT easier on tyres. Remember that when buying a trailer. Unsprung trailers are hopeless if any are left out there. IF maintained bearings are seldom an issue. Though spares never hurt.
