My basement flooded due to the heavy rain that storm Ida brought.
Big lesson learned is GET YOUR BACKUP PUMP IN YOUR PIT AS SOON AS YOU SEE YOUR PUMPS NOT KEEPING UP. I also got a plumber to install a larger capacity sump pump instead of our current one.
I know this flooding of basement is a minor one compared to others who were hit bad by this storm. I hope everyone affected are safe and will recover soundly.

If you live in a high flood area or know a flood is coming, you need a submersible trash pump like a Tsurimi. It's cast iron, overpowered and you won't have any problems with it. It comes with a 2.5" rubber fire hose and it kicks out about 60gpm. The pump that the person bought is small and the hose kinked up. The trash pump is about 300 bucks and would eliminate that water in just a few minutes. I've gone through flooding and wished I had one a long time ago

Check around the foundation of your house. Make sure the ground is sloping away from your foundation. I got water in my basement because if this and I have pumps to.

99% of the time it is the city"s sewer drainage that is not able to keep up with the rain water so no matter how many sum pumps you have they are useless if the water cannot be pumped out into the main drain pipe. The only solution is to have a sump pump where the water is not into the main drain pipe, but to an alternate outlet outside from the house.

I live in Brooklyn, New York. I’m a licensed MASTER PLUMBER and this is my main portion of my work how to prevent flooding in basements believe me the pump you have there does nothing you actually need a backwater valve. You need to reroute your gutters and you need a pump that’s gonna pump the water downstream of the back water valve.... just to purchase this particular backwater valve is around $2800

Even with back water valve it is still useless and will only help with moderate rainfall if you have a toilet or bathtub in the basement. A heavy rainfall will back up the city's sewer system and the water will come back into your drain pipe and seep under the house and start over taking the sump pump and if the sump pump is connected to the drain pipe is basically isn't going to do much good as the water won't be able to pump out into the city's sewer system !

@@greekmaster1001 Try me, how are you going to pump water into an overfilled sewer network ? The backwater valve only stops water from getting back from the city's sewer to your toilet or bathtub in the basement, water will start coming from under the ground through the concrete and walls.

@@etow8034 i’ll try you very perfectly cause it’s already been done The water coming back from the sewer into the home is only gravity pressure the pump, pumps with greater pressure I’ve done in numerous times in the past few years not one of them failed
