I agree with you 100%. To make a long story short a few years ago i started showing my art at a local ArtWalk. I sold a piece or two each month at very affordable prices. Earlier this year i was invited to show at two group shows. One of the galleries literally told me to raise my prices.

I am SO happy I have discovered your channel.... I feel completely out of the water when it comes to offering my work for sale. It's very hard to decide what to price a piece at - it all depends on the cost of the canvas, paints, mediums, varnish/resin and your time, of course. I feel like offering art at more affordable prices will, in the end, give you more consistent sales and that your patience will gain you clients that will share your art with others...therefore you will grow. Your video helps me confirm that my thoughts on this are on the right track. Thank you for such amazing content!! Cheers!!! X ~ Jan

Thank you for sharing. 💕Useful information. I'm getting ready to do a lil craft/art show at my church. An been trying to figure out what I should price. I'm going to keep it on the low side just to move thing's. One day I will make it to a real art show. 😁
@driesketels5 жыл бұрын
That's a very good approach. Keep it on the low side BUT do take yourself serious. Don't give it away just to make sure you move things. And good luck with the show. Ps: Churches are not the worst place, there's a lot of art connected to churches. You never know who's going to visit. :)

@@driesketels thank you 😊 I'm trying not to. I have a hard time pricing thing's. I know what I can afford to spend. So I tend to keep that in mind. I have a friend helping me price. So I don't go to low. Cause I tend to. 💚 The church also has a lil gift shop. I will get to put a few thing's in it after the show.

@driesketels5 жыл бұрын
The total is bigger then the sum of it's parts. It's one of the big reasons that artists fail. They skim through the tactics and think it's about knowing all the different parts. When in fact it's more about how you bring all the parts together that counts. Enjoy your Sunday Jawara

Great advice! What if someone goes in too high to begin with, can they backtrack and follow this model? I have been told by mentors to always increase ones prices and that it’s a no no to decrease. Thanks
@driesketels3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely... It's indeed true that some people might be offended by that, especially people who already collected at certain price points but you have to do what you have to do. And more often then not those people will not even notice that you have lowered your price points so...

Great video! How much did you sell? Would be interesting to know when you have a sales track record? Is it 10? is it 50? is it 100 or even more?
@driesketels4 жыл бұрын
10 original artworks sold for decent price points in a 3 month window is definitely a sales track record that will be attractive to some galleries (depending on which galleries and dealers). That same amount sold over a 10 year period is technically a track record but will not attract any galleries...

Hey I want you to know that I really appreciate you my fellow Artist. It’s been tough trying to figure out what to charge for my original paintings, because I have based how much their worth by square inch ect. So your saying that my paintings should start out at $200? I appreciate that because that feels like My time, efforts and original work is worth at least that much. It’s great hearing your philosophy regarding worth and Art being able to be sell. Thank you- Night Maher

@@driesketels I really appreciate that advice and l bought a canvas that was a little heavier with its inner framing and am thinking of presentation and quality so I can feel good selling it at a higher price. I have been at this craft for about 10 years so I should be confident with it

Cool... I'm curious Katherine... How did you approach that journey going from one to two galleries? What did you focus on?
@pleasedelete14935 жыл бұрын
Dries Ketels You’re going to laugh, but I just applied to half of the abstract galleries in my city! I only got one answer, and they took me. I had priced my paintings based on the hours I put in, and of course my materials! One woman said that I need to raise my prices because my art is “original” (for that gallery) so they raised my prices for me. But I just applied to another gallery recently, and their answer to rejecting me was “your art is beautiful, but you’re not well known. Therefore we would have to say that we can’t take you” 😂 I was shocked with that response haha
@pleasedelete14935 жыл бұрын
I just applied to all of these galleries though, I didn’t think twice about it 😊

@@pleasedelete1493 Laugh??? No no congratulations they took you. That's super good news. You only need one answer as you can see... Are you applying to other galleries in other cities then or are you going to try and stay in the same area. And is your 'first' gallery okay with that?
@petermorffew9851 Жыл бұрын
Not entirely true. I approached a provincial gallery after having exhibited and sold at the Royal Academy Summer show. I was told the prices were too cheap and the gallery owner would not earn enough off my work.
