This is very true. I picked up some art collectors during my Masters course in London. They are so specific on what they want, and they might even visit your studio to discuss a commission or purchase work. Or they might not want to meet you at all, lol! I've had couples buy art, students, dentists, tutors, and designers. (Btw, oil on canvas, quite different from what my KZbin channel shows. More for fun!). Once a collector came to my studio to purchase a painting and I had a pile of A4 papers with rough ideas using acrylic. She looked through them and offered £100 for one! So you never know what will happen. It's good to build a friendship with them. But be warned, some collectors can get possessive and controlling. So keep it professional, have your boundaries, and have other collectors on rotation 👍

Dries, as someone says here your videos are really honest. That’s rare I mean the honesty coming through so strongly. It’s really impressive. Most artists presenting on you tube are good but there’s still a distance you know. But you are able to really connect with the viewers. I’m watching all your videos again. Thank you again ❤

Thank you for your compelling content. I have some experience as an art collector and I would say I was very shy when entering the galleries and the artists whose works I bought were willing to show me a lot of their works and tell me their stories and let me take their photos, etc... So really connection bwetween the artist and the collector is very important...

Thanks for sharing! What would be your advice for artists in the online world where that human connection is harder to find/make?
@ivanadzidic40123 жыл бұрын
Your videos are really helpful. I'm totally binge watching them tonight. Like many people & artists, I'm quite clueless when it comes to selling my original art. Sometimes I feel like there is almost a taboo surrounding the topic of selling art. I started to get some commissions and people are inquiring about my paintings so I'm trying to figure it out but there is so much to learn it can feel quite overwhelming. Connecting with art collectors or finding them is something I have never ever thought of. I suppose that shows how 'green' I am in the art world, but I know I think there are a lot of us like that. Probably even professional artist can be a bit clueless when it comes to some of these things. Art is a confusing world in terms of business, there are many myths around it and I'm sure both buyers and artists have issues navigating all of it.
@driesketels3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of myths indeed and many are clueless. That's the main reason I developed this channel because I was so clueless for so many years. Thanks for the appreciation Ivana. if there is something that you would like to see covered on the channel, let me know... Would love to make more videos that can help you out.

Cheers, Dries. Cool mind and open-sharing approach to the satirical loops of the art world. It would be interesting if you did a few vids on the role of hybrid organic + digital CNC art...mix n' match ideas...how CNC tools can be used to complicate or "infuse new ideas" into the online world of art. Mini-Museums of modern art...that sit in a space yet are VR interactive expandable worlds etc. I think we are nearing the end of the era of galleries and traditional museums...a whole new paradigm is going to emerge. Love your insights and observations.

Hi just checking in. It is so difficult for me right now. I have arthritus in most places but especially in my hands. Many years ago I moved to digital art, I know what many people think, it was just so much easier, a smaller canvas, no shopping for paint or draging around canvasses in the wind and rain. Recently I have been trying AI, I knoweven more mud thrown in my dirrection. I bit have a shop/gallery where I prompted my work and where I could help people with their mental health. I provided a unqiue service, I even helped 2 mothers create a clothing look for their sadly breathed son and daughter to be dressed for their coffins. Since I could also print onto garments. I also have bi-polar and run up and down like a yo yo with my emotions. I am like Van Goth in the fact that I can sell other people’s art but sadly not my own. Thankyou for these insights, for your time energy and honest oppion. Sorry for any spelling mistakes I am aslo profoundly dsylexic. Thank you for listening.
