Great program. This is 6+ years old and still very relevant in 2019. I think we're around the same age ,you are a little younger, but either way we were collecting the same type of stuff and around the same time. I just noticed something: How does this get 34 thumbs down and do we really need thumbs down in 2019? Of course when you have as many views as you get, the trolls are bound to come out.

Like you I collected comics for the love in the eighties. Like you, I collected for the cool covers earlier and then for the cooler characters and storylines. I loved the cosmic stories like SIlver Surfer and Adam Warlock. When prices in the early nineties skyrocketed and multiple covers came out, I stopped collecting. I probably wasn’t the only one.

Thanks Brother good info I appreciate it. Good tip on the shipp[ing because some people will not think about it as a factor. There are costs of doing business. I like the fact that I can sell for free on comics price guide and everything is right there.

The hardest thing sometimes as a collector is to find a seller who is honest. I have been lucky, but it seems your guy is trying to maximize due to your interest in that series. It's a good system but is only as good as the people who use it. Thanks as always for watching.

Thats why i use this system. it shows what the average sale price is for a book by the collector market.

i never use e-bay fee's, but if you buy multiple books you should split shipping costs. Just my feeling. Thanks for watching.

Good topic.....I would also add that it depends on if a person needs a sale immediately (auction style). I have found that Ebay is very erratic in the price methods depending on the time of the year, available supply in that particular week,etc.....Usually a major dealers pricing is better and more reliable evaluation for your collection value (ie..mycomicshop). Ebay is simply a marketplace (a TON of foreign collectors won't use Ebay) in which to secure a sale today....GREAT videos!

The GPA tracks sales data from most of the big auction houses in addition to eBay. For the more expensive gold/silver/bronze books the GPA comes in handy for data as most of those books aren't sold through eBay. Using eBay for price checking works great for lower dollar and common stuff. For the more advanced collector, the GPA is the way to go.

Great vid, my friend. Yeah, eBay is def a modern gauge that determines a lot of pricing nowadays. I look at sold listings to determine what a ballpark value of a book is. Enjoyed this video very much!

Another angle is that many books sell extremely well in October and November, and then barely at all for the rest of the year.

@SuperJoeitall If a seller sets a reserve of $100 on a book but it sells for $200 it is worth $200, it just means that the seller needed a certain price to part with the book. On the other side of things if the seller has a reserve of $200 but people will only pay $100 then it is worth $100. What the seller wants or ends up with is meaningless. The amount of cash a buyer is willing to part with to obtain a book is the critical piece in determining value.

Great video! And this is much needed in the community and it is my hope that more people see this. Im going to send this video to all my collecting friends. Quick question though......as I am looking at the sold listings, and at the top right side of the listings I see "Sort by", and I set it to "MOST RECENT". I dont set it to "highest first" or "lowest first"....I set it to "Most Recent".......am I right? If not, what setting?

Good system, I do that when figuring a bid price on EBay, but for figuring your comics worth, I don't think shipping should be included (my opinion). What if that cost included up to 5 books? Now you have to split it by 5, etc. Also, if you add shipping, then you need to deduct 18% for EBay and Paypal fees (since they charge on shipping also, it ends up around that %) since the real selling price to that seller is less those fees. Thanks!

+ArkhamComicsLasVegas I have four boxes full of comics from DC, Marvel, and Image. 90% are in Mint/NM condition. All the books have been bagged and boarded since I got them. Read through them once carefully and made sure there were no printing errors. 80% of the books were not on the common shelves in the Comic book Store but were kept in my box in the comic book store by owner because I had a deal with him to buy certain number of titles per month. They are kept in comic book boxes, in a dry, dark and safe place. Looking to sell 80-90% of them. Keeping a few that have sentimental value and I intend to get graded. But I am still willing to sell them if the price is right. If you are interested I'll offer them to you if not i'd like your advice as you are a more seasoned collector and deal more in comics and comic book character related collectibles.

I love the information. I guess the only thing I'd argue about shops doing their pricing based off of eBay. Unless they are listing everything on eBay they need to take into account their customer base and door traffic. eBay has an audience of millions. Your shop has an 30-50 people walk in a week. So unless you want to sell on eBay you shouldn't price as if you have an audience of millions.
@livingdeadcomics
@livingdeadcomics 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Pricing this way allows for a more accurate and up to date price listing. Batman adventure 12 was listed in the overstreet at one time for $30 but was selling in excess of $150-$200. This was 2012-13, but why sell it for $30 when you can get more? I understand your point, but very few shops or collectors go straight price guide anymore. Speculators and flippers are to thank for that.
@AlextheComicHoarder
@AlextheComicHoarder 7 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I guess my thoughts on eBay are this. eBay traffic vs lcs traffic. eBay gets millions of hits a day/week. LCS get 30-50 people a week more obviously if it's a big city or huge shop. Unless the shop is going to sell everything on eBay I feel that they should be more realistic to their audience. We both know that that will never happen though. Anyways. Good conversation my man. I'm subbing right now.

Thanks for the post! I have a bin of comic books I inherited from my sister's ex-boyfriend and I typed all of the titles in to ComicsPriceGuide.com. According to that website, the collection is worth close to four grand; there are 570 issues. I was going to sell on their website. I'm not a comic book collector; I'd have to buy the sleeves and boards to sell them and do some more legwork. I already spent $50 a year ago on a membership with Comics Price Guide in order to sell them, but I've been super busy and I haven't gotten around to selling them at all and now my membership is expiring. I'd like to sell the comic books and just get a reasonable amount for all of them. Where's the best place to do that? Just sell them individually on eBay? I'd be happy with like two to three grand if someone bought all of them. Most of them are $1-$3 ones, but about ten of them are high value including the first appearance of Spiderman and some Batman ones. Please advise, thanks!

When you search for something, and the list comes up, look to your left, and slowly scroll down until you see the "Show only" , then underneath that, click on "Sold listings". When you do that, all of the listings will come up for that particular item that have been sold already.

Buyer beware though. Dealers will look at the top-priced "listings" - you need, as the video says, the last 5 "sales" - actual sales. If a dealer says let's see what is going for on eBay - ask for what it has actually sold for :) Also, if I could offer any advise - for what it's worth - variant covers is the 90's of today. Gimmicky and poised for a crash.

The shop I go to using Ebay to price their books too. I also look at Ebay before I go to the shop so I know what to expect to pay for a book. I was recently looking on Ebay for issue #1 of Forever People Volume 1. Their were no books listed in the sold section but yet the owner of the shop tells me there were 4 sold at $95. He knows I collect Jack Kirby books and apparently thinks Im stupid. The book is in fine to fine + condition and is NO way worth $95.

2nd Msg. comicpriceguide has it listed for $105 @ 9.4 condition. I do understand the owner wants to make money but he won't be getting mine for much longer. The funny thing is he took the same book to a small show in Buffalo and put $150 price tag on it. Couldn't even put it in mylar. That's all for my rant. Love your videos keep up the good work.

Just watched your video I agree with how you price books what I disagree with is adding shipping to price. I think you should only add shipping in your price if you paid for shipping to get that book not if you bought it at a con or your lcs you should not be adding shipping cost to it. just my opinion
@livingdeadcomics
@livingdeadcomics 8 жыл бұрын
I add shipping for a simple reason. If i sell a book for .99 and charge 12.00 for shipping, it cost me $12.99 for the book. In my opinion, if you don't add the shipping your not being honest about the price. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching
