Great information. There is a tendency for artisans to under price their work. You have to consider that your time is valuable: designing, the gas for your car, ordering materials and the time to create the project from start to finish should be all in the final price. Your target market is people who want something unique and recognize the value of that uniqueness and quality. The trick is to find that target market. Your stuff, while not to my taste, is really, really nice. Good luck and thanks for taking the time to share!

Oh and use elmers glue for something so that's a valid tag also😉 Basically it's a suggestion to boost your views using highly searched, trending words... plus the thumbnail of a rainbow galaxy (whatever that'd look like) should be an attention grabber! Would it make sense to take a mathematical approach to it? Like say for time, I add a certain amount per hour I spend on the rug depending on size...and also by running a small experiment determine the amount of yarn it would take for a certain fixed size, like a 1ft rug and use that in purchasing materials? Then add a certain fee for commissioned pieces? Can this method work?
@fightvale573 жыл бұрын
You are completely right. Make sure you place the value and have people meet it. The way value works is you have to set it because people will naturally try and low ball you. The right person will pay you what you're worth but you've got to tell them what the worth it. You do good work,I just wanted you to reinforce that you're totally right. This is the attitude of a successful person. You're talented.

@luca915903 жыл бұрын
i agry with all your pojnts exept the last one "popularity". I mean i kinda understand the reason that because there will be more people interested, you can put a higher price because you kinda know that it will sells anyway (if i understood well, i'm french so maybe i'm missing a point) but for me the last point should be creativity instead of popularity. If you just recreate a design that already exist (like the space jam logo) you basically just do an industrial work, there's no creativity, no singularity, so for me it should be even cheaper. But if you do something really personal, your style, something which doesn't exist anywhere else, for me this should be a point that increase the price, because there's singularity, and also because you took time to create the singular design

when you sell a very few things and are way off the radar, i wonder if it's worth a legal department's time even to send a cease and desist. sell them consistently and in blatant ways, then maybe you'd get one eventually, but even then a lot of ppl get away with it.

Do you get permission to sell trademarked logos etc. like Spacejam or lets say you get an order for a sports team logo?
@manlymcstud85883 жыл бұрын
short answer, no. long answer, no. lol. unless you have a license to manufacture this stuff it's IP infringement, and you won't get a license unless you meet their criteria and can afford the license. they're just not going to sell you a license for a couple of pieces to a guy working out of a spare bedroom even if you could afford it. unless you're able to mass-produce and have retail relationships with large chains they really have no incentive to waste their time. there may be exceptions where a really small company might own the copyright to some ancient property and the market is so niche that 200 units would be considered a success, but even then they're not likely to give permission to some schmuck who doesn't even have a vendors license piddling away in his spare bedroom.
@Geteozaawimakwa Жыл бұрын
Are you worried about copy right infringement?
@dalewooten939Ай бұрын
So the things you mentioned are pretty straightforward. But you really didn't mention HOW to price them. You also didn't mention the price of licensing for the Lakers and Disney brands you showed, or lawyer fees you'll need to back you in f you don't have a license for those "popular" products. So for products, how do you figure in the price? 2x-3x the cost? Did you figure cost of your tools? You should figure in a cost of use, so you can replace the gun when it needs replaced. Or the oil for cleaning, the air gun for cleaning, vacuum etc...all those need figured into it. Also design time IF you have an original idea, set up etc... This is what I taught our kids at photography school...all the big and small details must be figured in.
@Chainedtolifemedia3 жыл бұрын
how does the copy right for that brand work? can you still sell it?
@manlymcstud85883 жыл бұрын
lol, it's straight up copyright/IP infringement. there's no possible way you'd get a license for a few one-offs even if you could afford it. the stuff you would typically license is owned by a larger company with a licensing department, or maybe a licensing agency.

@@Ninety5Shoots i have some bath mats with a latex back. they're pretty old, but the latex does eventually flake off after a *lot* of washes in regular wash cycles with no special care at all. that latex is pretty good quality, i understand, but if you can afford it and don't mind the smell then that should be one of your selling points for sure. it's a good topic to discuss. i've read conflicting statements about dry cleaning acrylic, so it's just best to ask the cleaners themselves. there are plenty of advice pieces on how to clean acrylic clothing which should be applicable to rugs, too. just tossing it in the washing machine... uh, no. i mean, duh. :)
