does anybody know why my roland wont read my cut lines? after i have added the cut lines and converted the file into a pdf file on silhouette studio, i open the file again and resave it and then open it in versa works. After that, i go to job assistant and select what i want to be cut but that doesn't always work. sometimes it'll only work on some parts on the file but not the whole design. Am i doing something wrong or missing something? please help.

Hello love your videos!! My question is, can you print on roland and cut with a starcraft solo? I love the silhouette business edition, but the solo software seems soo clunky.

I'm not 100% sure b/c I am not familiar with the Solo's software. If you can export with registration marks then it should be possible.

The cut appears to be really off on the Cheer Mom sticker held up at the end, was that just a fluke or did they all come out like that? I'm worried this method won't be reliable enough to get consistently good cuts on the Silhouette 😬
@SilhouetteSchool Жыл бұрын
It's workable as an option, but there are better options for sure. The issue is the Pro is not reliable in general...

@@SilhouetteSchool it's the same way you did, the only difference is if your media is wider than 12" some media would be wasted, eg. if your roll is 36" wide, then you will be using around a third of it, or if you do not wish to waste, then you can print two files at the same time, by repeating your procedure for both designs, then on VersaWorks, select both files from the Queue, right click, select nest then double click on your nested options, this way you will have two files printing together and if you have two 12" designs, you can have them next to each other and save media. Also, I strongly advise that the first thing you do when opening the settings on VersaWorks is clicking on "Get Media Width" at the top right corner. Sometimes there is a +/- in size or when you loaded your material it may not be equal to the default of 480 mm. When you load your media, the printer heads goes back and forth, what the Roland is doing here is measure the printable width between the pinch rollers, when you click on "Get Media Width" it changes the media width to the measurement the machine just read. This will give you a more accurate print and will not affect neither your registration marks placement nor the cutting on your Silhouette machine. Hope this helps.

What is the max print width for the BN-20? I will make a template
@rulaatallah54082 жыл бұрын
@@SilhouetteSchool The maximum width of media that can be loaded onto the Roland BN20 is 50 cm, however, the printable width is less because part of the media is loaded under the pinch rollers and that is why the default on VersaWorks is set to 48 cm and also why it is recommended that you select "Get Media Width" that will give you the exact printable width for the media you have loaded.

@@SilhouetteSchool the Roland BN20 accepts media with width down to 5.9" I believe, but not all measurements in between 5.9" and 20" the edges of the media have to be covering the grills in order for the machine to accept the media. I have used 9, 12 and 15" so far with no problems.

@rulaatallah54082 жыл бұрын
If you want to save time, you can also save your design on Mac, onto the cloud, then open it from cloud on your PC. When you select save as, the default is to open locations on your Mac, select "Save to creative cloud", close the file, go to illustrator on your PC and open it from there. There are two ways to bring files into VersaWorks, either you can go straight to VersaWorks and select File>Add Job to Queue, but in this case the file needs to be a PDF, or while on illustrator on your PC, select the VersaWorks printer from the printers option and select print, that will export it to VersaWorks, when you go to VersaWorks, you'll find your file there.

At the 8:00 minute mark it shows the time it takes to complete the job. Is this the time for printing only? Or is it bundling the potential cutting time into the total time (which would be taken off due to it being cut on the silhouette)? The speed is the deciding factor for me.
@SilhouetteSchool2 жыл бұрын
I believe that's the printing time only. I will need to verify that
@bethambi57912 жыл бұрын
@@SilhouetteSchool thanks for the response! If it’s the printing time then I will definitely have to pass on the machine as I already produce that amount in a third of the time. Might look into it later if I want to expand into shirt vinyl.
@rulaatallah54082 жыл бұрын
@@bethambi5791 no no , don't discouraged by the printing time, a) this is only an estimate, time is usually much less than what it says it will be and b) it assumes you are printing and cutting. If you change the Mode to Cut Only, then go back to Quality Settings, the time does not change although it should show much less. Also, you will need to check the Head Speed under Quality Settings, it might be lower than the default or the maximum speed.
@bethambi57912 жыл бұрын
@@rulaatallah5408 that’s what I was wondering: if that time included the estimated cut time or if it was just the printing time. I currently print about 30 8.5x11” sheets a day minimum and worry this will take twice as long. I also don’t know if the media I print on (magnetic sheets) can but cut from 24” roll down to 20” to fit. I wish someone did a speed comparison for this one. The only ones I see are for the original BN-20.
@rulaatallah54082 жыл бұрын
@@bethambi5791 Be careful, I have not tried to cut magnet sheets, however, I was told that the Roland BN20 does NOT cut magnet sheets, let me double check and get back to you, I was too scared to try them on machine and ruin it, so just took the maintenance team's word for it. What do you use to cut your magnetic sheets if I may ask?

@SilhouetteSchool2 жыл бұрын
No you don't, not with Roland.
@rulaatallah54082 жыл бұрын
The printable HTV used with the Roland BN20 and similar Eco Solvent printers is different than that we are used to eg. Siser. With the coloured HTV we reverse cut, weed and the backing stays on our design and is removed after application. Meaning that the backing is the transfer application tape. With the printable HTV, you print on the top of the media, weed, then use application tape to transfer your design onto it and use that onto your t-shirt, after pressing you peel off the application tape and it can be reused. The application tape comes with a backing as well, make sure you do not throw that away, you will need it to store your application tape for later use. Hope this helps.

Why would you use a cameo when the roland is already a vinyl cutter. That's why it's called a print and cut machine.
@SilhouetteSchool2 жыл бұрын
B/c the Roland BN20/A is a very slow cutter so if you want to keep it printing and increase your production you can have two machines running at one time - one printing and one cutting.
