Great breakdown, thanks for sharing your mockup! Regarding layering synth chords, are these same chords but different inversion for each synth patch? Just wondering if that's how you achieve denser harmony!
@MilesAwayOfficial
@MilesAwayOfficial 2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! You are more or less spot on. You want to do inversions, but specifically make sure there are very large spaces between all your notes, so you don't end up with mud in the middle. That's why most of my main synth parts often include at least an octave jump between notes. Then, the inversion versions are really high up and sit on top. I'm gonna do a video on writing / layering synths better at some point to go in deeper on this idea!

@MilesAwayOfficial
@MilesAwayOfficial 27 күн бұрын
Late reply but it was honestly just some random desk on Wayfair called the Lattitude Run. I wanted the Output Platoform but they didn't ship to Canada, this is kind of a knockoff of that. Fits the Seaboard perfectly!

MIDI. I used to use it with my DX7IIfd and then with my AN1X. I have gone completely ITB, so it should work REALLY well with just about anything. Just assign it to a mod destination (or several) and rip away. I used to use it for brass-ish patches, or pads for texture.

@@MilesAwayOfficial EW is pricy as hell, but if you want to test it out they have a more manageable student subscription. The Fantasy Orchestra is aimed at more medieval instruments and sounds, but that horn section is worth it all on its own. (PS: Not sponsored or anything like that)

The Melody is borrowed from Eric Serra's original motion picture soundtrack to The Fifth Element.
@MilesAwayOfficial
@MilesAwayOfficial 2 ай бұрын
Really? What piece of music from the Fifth Element?
@BobGuido
@BobGuido 2 ай бұрын
@@MilesAwayOfficial Listen to the entire soundtrack to get a feel for where Hans and his team got the feel for the Dune II soundtrack. The Fifth Element cues from the great French composer Eric Serra which contain this signature 4-note melodic phrase are as follows: "Koolen", "Human Nature", "Mina Hinoo", "Leeloominai", "Protect Life", "Five Millenia Later". The Armenian Duduk is the featured signature melody instrument on The Fifth Element Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Indeed, Eric Serra also used the Duduk in this music as the signature character instrument. Hans and his team are good. They just aren't genius. Just like Coldplay who borrowed the melody for "Viva La Vida" from Joe Satriani's song "If I Could Fly" without saying anything. Only thing is, Joe is the kind of musician who takes a great deal of pride in his compositional skills and this particular composition had a very signature sound and feel to it. Coldplay guitarist Johnny Buckland was interviewed long before Viva La Vida came out saying that Satriani was a major early influence of his, so Coldplay agreed to settle with Joe Satriani and gave him ownership for the larger percentage of the publishing for Viva La Vida. Hans Zimmer, or whatever member of his team who wrote the theme for Dune II should at least publicly say that Eric Serra and his music were a major influence on the Dune II original motion picture soundtrack. Eric Serra has influenced many composers who have borrowed from him over the years, but Hans Zimmer is such a huge organization that they won't be able to hide from this. There are already people making the comparison all over the internet.

Nice. But you really don't need an overly expensive Seaboard. What you do need is experience and time to learn to perform expressive programming. There are other, less expensive controller devices that can help you get there, if you feel you really need them. And you really need to see DUNE 2 in IMAX with a good sound-system. Then you will get it.
