Slick! So glad to see a lot of people using Cubase and it 'weathered the storm' of a generation who mostly chose ProTools... I've been using Cubase since I had an Atari 1040ST and Akai samplers back in the 80s :D

As a House --and dancemusic producer--, I use Splice quite a lot. But instead of using the app, I add the Splice Download folder to the Mediabay. This way I can preview downloaded samples in realtime and in key with the song I'm working on. If I drag a sample into the project, it's already in key and in musical mode. Great video once again Chris. I'm quite impressed with your production skills. This song you are working on sounds really nice.

Chris, I can tell you, that I usually work in MAGIX Music MAker 2020 to create something of an idea with loops, it's super simple in that program. I then transfer the music over to cubase and replace the loops from MMM and create an cubase song from ground up, because I dont have commercial license for the MMM loops. It's an idea pad, Magix Music Maker, super easy superfast. And I've gotten the humble bundle offers soo I've gotten it cheap aso.

Great video Chris! The vocal loop at the end could have been easily rectified by right clicking on it and select find in pool, then input the correct tempo. The problem was that cubase didn't detect the tempo properly because there was not enough rhythmic elements in the sample. It happened a lot with non rhythmic samples actually. I appreciate your way of doing it though!!
@mixdownonline4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're correct, usually that works well and I will add this tip on a future video cause that is a good one to share... In this particular case even that didn't help out for some reason that's why I had no choice but to go to Audio Warp. Thanks Craig!

Hi Chris, great video. You said that splice is royalty free but EULA says they own the master side I believe...Is this a problem when you create a new recording that is released commercially using splice sounds but converted into new song? Is there a legal issue with using their sounds? Thanks.

Everything on Splice is supposed to royalty free no matter what you do with it from what is advertised on their website.

Probably with something like Melodyne that has a technology called DNA (Direct Note Access) where you can pitch correct or change any notes found in a chord. Never tried it yet.

Hi Chris, great video as usual. I would like to ask about chords progression track at the top of your project...All samples are in some fixed predefined key, so, whether you adjust them to every following chord in sequence manually or, Cubase does it automatically? How to drag audio loop of fixed key to chord progression? Thanks a lot.
@mixdownonline4 жыл бұрын
I use the top Chord Track mainly as a guide. You can use the Chord track and have it monitored by a VST instrument part of your session so this way if you change the Chords on top, you will monitor the sound directly from the selected VST Instrument. I will make a video on this

Great long video that at the end one wants to be even longer. I wonder, that seems to be your last song, but I am not sure if all these loops and arrangements were in the released one, with vocals. If don’t, what are doing, a kind of electronic version or similar? And: if later you record, for example, your real drums in the song, how do you manage the mix? Do you handle the different kick or snare loops as second, third kick and snares, sending them to the kick and snare groups together with the real ones, or do you handle the things from the loops separately?
@mixdownonline4 жыл бұрын
This one is a new song I'm working on. If I was to record Live Drums on this song, I would probably blend the real drums with some of the samples to keep the Live feel. Routing wise in the mix, that depends on the mix, sometimes I do send all kicks in the same group sometimes I don't. I'm working on a premium mixing in Cubase course that will be out soon. I actually talk about this in the course since I'm diving back into my last production's Mix.
@korkenknopfus4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Chris. Yes, of course. After writing I realized that it was just a reminiscence, because of the chord sequence and the rythmic in bass. About your mixing course, oh yes, I know very very well that it comes out soon 😸

Is there a way to have musical mode automatically applied to samples when importing them, rather than dragging them in and having to apply musical mode manually? It’d be so much faster for sample-based composers for musical mode to be automatically applied than have to add it every single time IMHO.
