You can use red or black pigment, you add water, Acrylic resin and calcium carbonate...

You are using gas as a volatile, normally acetone has been used. It would evaporate faster, thus drying fast, but is more expensive. You can also use plexiglass instead of styrofoam. The environmentalists are going to have a fit but they are the ones that have ruined paint. I also make finish from wax, oil and turpentine and a preservative sealer with tar, oil, thinner. Make my own tar from wood when making charcoal.
