Just realised the sound goes for a few seconds at 14:51 - "we use resilient bars mainly because they are cheaper, only 17mm space loss and you can get them at the local builders merchant"

Would love to understand please whether these systems are required for non-fill cavity brick walls.
@jimprior79 ай бұрын
Hi John, thanks for your question. Yes, they are required for non-fill cavity brick walls because the sound resonates between the air gap and the noise channels around the house. However, I also find these systems to be more important for filled cavity walls. I know there is a lot of information about filled cavity walls being better for sound insulation, but after 17 years of installing sound insulation in homes, I just do not find this to be the case. I might be wrong, of course, but I just got off the phone with another homeowner who now hears doors banging, footsteps, and a lot of other noises since her neighbor (semi-detached) had her cavity walls filled. The systems sound-deaden the walls first, and we find they give superior results compared to not sound-deadening the wall and just building a stud wall in front with the mainstream resilient channels and two layers of board with TecSound in between. Of course, you have to do it how we show you in the online soundproofing courses. Hope that helps.

Is there anything you can put outside in a courtyard to stop sound bouncing around that public area where it's incredibly echoey?

Acoustic Moss is really effective, we might be installing that to the Sky Garden in London

Do you have a video about an rsj into a part wall. Putting my ear to the wall the rsj is on is louder than rhe party wall.
@jimprior76 ай бұрын
Hey @sounduser, Thanks for your comment, there is 4 or more lessons on this and the different layers on The Noise Free DIY Soundproofing Course....so you can imagine the detail required to treat the RSJ properly. I have this little short which briefly describe the layers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHezdWp7fNalhNksi=WfVEm2hCiMWRbAgG RSJs are quite a common feature in a lot of my videos, mentioned in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2iqho1-frSsq9ksi=41BvU3i8vO4XHUfu and also this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZqiZemOteKZlgtksi=J6fv-s7lEYD8WOqX Is your RSJ sat on the separating party wall??? If it is you really need to sound deaden, insulate it, install rubber and 2 layers of 15mm Sound Bloc Board. An RSJ is a main cause, which means it does not matter how thick your party wall sound insulation is....unless you address the main cause, then the noise will still come through. Hope that helps....let us know how you get on

At 24:50 mins. If the sound comes just to the left of the window on the flanking wall. You would have to still do all the window wall because the thickness of the soundproofing etc, would come out past the rest of the existing plasterwork on the remainder of the wall. Or is there a more slimmer system so you wouldn’t have to touch rest of wall ware the the radiator is. Just in the process of doing my walls so any response would be appreciated. Great video

Hi John, have a look at 24.00mins to 24.17mins and i show many pictures in the top right of “going up to the first reveal” it does create a 50mm step. You really need to return it into the window over the cavity if you can. There are thinner systems but this rubber will not channel the noise like those 27.5mm panel systems sold everywhere. Thanks very much for your question.
