How To Program A 1998 - 2020 Nissan Frontier Remote Key Fob - Keyless Entry - DIY Video Tutorial

An easy to follow video on how to program a remote key fob to a 1998 - 2020 Nissan Frontier.

1. Close and lock all doors with the driver’s side power lock/unlock switch.
2. Insert key into ignition and remove it from the ignition key cylinder at least six times within 10 seconds. Your Hazard Lamps will flash if you have performed this step successfully. NOTE: Withdraw key completely from ignition cylinder each time. If this procedure is performed too fast, system will not enter programming mode.
3. Insert key into the ignition cylinder and turn to the ACC position.
4. Within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the remote transmitter. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. NOTE: Do not press the button more than one time in the above step. If the button is pressed more than one time, the programming procedure will not be successful.
5. If there are any remaining transmitters (including the old ones), unlock then lock all doors using the driver’s side power lock/unlock switch and within 5 seconds, push ANY button on the next remote. Your Hazard Lamps should flash. Repeat this step for each transmitter (including any existing transmitters). *IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE REMOTE, skip this step*
6. Turn the key to the OFF position, remove keys from the ignition, unlock doors using the driver’s side power lock/unlock switch and open the driver side door.

This is another reason that I love KZbin. I had to reprogram my second key fob after getting my ECU replaced in my XTerra. We already know the dealer would ask for at least a couple of hundred to do this. Worked perfectly. Thank you for what you do!

Wow - just purchased a used Frontier with one of the fobs inoperative even after battery change. So, tried this thinking why not, maybe old fob somehow was reprogrammed. Sure enough, the process worked exactly as described and I saved $150+ vs. new fob and programming. Thanks so much!

I’m very happy because my truck has been in and out of the dealership at Sheehee Nissan of Maryland. They literally destroyed my brand new truck I have 27,900 and some miles. I still have the all original tires everything original a person hit my truck and I found out that my brakes had no measurements on them. They sit and was wiping my computer board so much that they deleted both of my key fobs from working so I went on there today and figure it out because I knew that they can be reprogrammed one anytime there’s been work done to the computer mainframe.😮 one thing I was taught reading prints for building maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning so I figured you know I can program and understand and comprehend this man very well, and I would just like to say thanks because it just save me $180

I have an 04 Maxima , and needed a new key/fob I followed the instructions that came with fob word for word in addition to your (more comprehensive) steps , but did not work for me. Thanks for the video. Two troubles I had: 1) enter the key at a rate near once per second, not too fast. In 7 inserts, it worked. Going really fast didn’t work, ever. 2) My fob had a bad Unlock switch on the circuit board. When only the Lock button would program, I opened the fob and noticed the tiny button on the circuit board did not click.

2006 frontier, auto repair place unlock the truck. Left the door open without starting the engine within two minutes. Now the red light with the key in the center of it is on. Tried your method when I first tried to get the flashers to come with the first step they did not.
