How To Program Your Nissan Car Key:
Step 1: Lock All Doors Using the Driver’s Side Power Lock
Get into the driver’s seat and lock all of the doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s side door pane.
Step 2: Consistently Insert & Remove the Key into the Ignition Until Your Hazards Flash
In order to get your Nissan key fob to enter reprogramming mode, you’re going to need to insert and fully remove the key from the ignition, without turning it, at least 6 times in 10 seconds. Count from the first action leaving about 1 second between each key placement and removal. Continue inserting and removing the key until your hazard lamps come on. Note: The reprogramming system is sensitive to timing, if you do this part of the procedure too fast or too slow it may not work. Try another set until you see your hazards blink twice.
Step 3: Turn the Key to ACC Mode
Once receive confirmation from your hazard lights, return the key to the ignition, but this time turn it to ACC, or Accessories Mode.
Step 4: Push the Fob’s “Lock” Button Once
Within 5 seconds of completing step 3, push the “Lock” button on the fob once. At this time, your hazards will flash again to signal that the reprogramming cycle is complete. Note: Pressing the button more than once will cause the reprogramming to fail.
Step 5: Program Remaining Remotes
To program remaining remotes, use the switch on the driver’s side door to Unlock and then Lock all doors. Then, within 5 seconds of locking the vehicle’s doors, press “Lock” on the next key fob that needs to be reprogrammed. Your hazards should come on to signal each successful programming.
Step 6: Turn the Key to Off & Remove It
When you’re done reprogramming all of your remotes, turn the key to Off and remove it from the ignition. You’re now ready to get out of the car, close the door, and test each of your newly programmed Nissan key fobs.

Quick question. Did the key work in starting your car? I got it programmed so it'll unlock and lock the car remotely. And i got it cut so it'll stick into the ignition and turn but it won't start the engine. Is there another step I'm suppose to take? I read something about a transponder chip. Is that something that needs to be programmed?

Update: apparently newer Nissan cars have a transponder chip that needs to be programmed and matched to your car so i still needed to go to the dealership to get that done. But all and all, still saved money vs getting everything done at the dealership.

Thank you Digital Dave! That worked on my new key fob for one of the 2 keys I had purchased. The second key has a dead battery but the local Ace Hardware was able to cut the keys to the ignition and they work perfectly! No "Smart Key" for the 2017 Nissan Versa Note.

david, the video is great quick and to the point. I did it and the fob worked but with the new key, while is turns in the ignition the nv200 will not start. I took my main key and put in the house in case there was radio interference, any ideas?

This procedure is for the fob. The fob used to be separate from the key. The key for starting the car has a chip in it and this how to video is for programming the fob. It's a very misleading video. The chip in the key is a small black piece about a cm long by about 4 mm wide and 3mm thick. It used to be only the dealership could alter the chip. Other than that I don't have a clue.

You have to press the lock and unlock button together at the same time and that should fix it. If it doesn't the first time try, repeat it and it should work.

There are 3 parts to getting this key working correctly 1. Get key blade duplicated from original key with a Locksmith 2. Get the transponder chip in the key cloned as a copy of the original key with a Locksmith 3. Program the remote control function into the vehicle. This is the part that this video illustrates .

Do your newly programmed keys start the car? The transponder chip is required by the BCM to send a "Go/No Go" signal to the ECM. If the BCM/ECM do not recognize the chip, it shouldn't start.

@@odonusa007 I was wondering about that because I have a key that will unlock the car using the lock but won't start the car anymore. I've been told that a dealer or locksmith can reprogram the key to make it work again. None of my keys have an integrated keyfob like that shown in this video. It's a good thing I have 2 extra keys and keyfobs that do work since the nearest Nissan dealer is over 100 miles away. I don't have a local locksmith that can handle the job either. I have a 2014 Xterra.
