How To Program a 2015+ Mustang Key Fob

In this video I go through the process of programming a 3rd key fob for my base model 2015 Mustang. FCC ID M3N-A2C31243800.

Although the electronics of the spare key fob appear to be OEM, the shell is aftermarket. The buttons are not as smooth as OEM and the cover is also harder to remove.

Just purchased a new mustang, came with 1 key. I just purchased another and need to go to dealership to get it programmed. Will it not work if 3 other keys were already programmed? I don’t know how many keys were programmed in the past. The one that came with the car looked aftermarket as well

Hi Brucehamp6859. The requirement for this process to work is to have 2 existing keys to program a third. From what I understand, to reprogram a car with a new set of keys, you would need to go to the Ford Dealership.

@@BIsForBudget I just paid a locksmith to come get into my car and program a new key fob and he told me that the old stolen key can still be used to get in and start the ignition, so I'm really looking for an alternative, because what you just showed in this video >I< could've done for probably 50 bucks vs the 460 I just spent. If you have any ideas/alternative routes I can take pls let me know, cos I'm already knee deep and he said it's going to be another 265 for another key that wipes the old one off.

Also, is the FCC ID only the main thing to confirm when I buy the 3rd FOB. My FCC ID is same as yours but the PN I have is 15K601-FC. Do you have same PN as mine? The amazon link you posted states that FCC ID and FOB part no should be same. The amazon link had part number of 15K601-FD

Hi Brandon, if you only have one key fob, you will have to go to a dealership or qualified locksmith to get a second key. Unfortunately, this process only works if you have 2 working keys.

I'm not sure about the 2022, but if it's similar to the 2015, you'll need 2 key fobs to program a 3rd with this method. Yeah, I know, it's not ideal.

Hi Gerardo, Unfortunately, you will need 2 working keys to program a 3rd. You will need to contact ford or a qualified locksmith to program a new key with only one working one. Yeah, it's a racket.

I've tried this with 2working fobs and it still doesn't work. It's a 2016 mustang gt premium. Could that be the problem??

Interesting, mine is a base model and the premiums use a different key fob. So, this may be the issue. Unfortunately, I can't say for certain. I'm not sure if this is the issue, but another person had issues with 2 factory key fob and programing a 3rd key fob which was a generic (non ford). Switching to a factory key fob resolved the issue.

The third fob is my original. I ordered a new one from the dealership and they programmed the new one. My wife had her fob with her. When she got home, my fob didn't work anymore. I wonder if they disabled it.

Congrats on your new car! From what I understand, for 2015 there were 2 different types of remotes. One is a 4 button and the other is a 5 button. I have a base model with a manual transmission, and it came with the 4 and no remote start. I've seen people with a 5 button perform a remote start of the car. Sorry I don't have much more info.

Right ! Those were the days, but hey, I was able to get both of my new key fibs programmed and in working order and guess what the car does have remote start 🤩

Hi Duvall, please open up the key fob and check the FCC ID number. Unfortunately, you need 2 working keys to program a 3rd.

Hi VicLop. I believe each key is unique and the programming process will fail when using the same key twice. You can certainly try. Yeah, I know, the 2 key requirement is disappointing...

You skipped what to do after you placed the 3rd key . Did you press start again, or just put it out. I did exactly what you did and it never worked.

Hi Mia Wolf. After inserting the 3rd key, you press the start/stop button as shown in the video. At that point, the new 3rd key was functional for me. This process worked for my base model 2015 Mustang. I did have a person who had problems with using a generic/3rd party remote. Using an OEM Ford remote resolved the problem. Hope this helps.
