I saw you set the offest as + or - but I didn't see you set the actual offset. For example, if my offset is -000.600 where do I put -0.6? So far I only see CLAR increments of 5.

Hi Forrest, thanks for the message and a good question. The following video kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYnagoB6ZdCphZY dives a little deeper into where you set the shift when programming frequencies, The 0.6 is actually a fixed setting that you can modify under the press "MENU/SETUP" and use the Multi Knob and locate setting 082 for 2 Meter. When done press "MENU/SETUP" to exit. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions keep in touch and good luck on the journey '73 sir

Novice question if I may: I have no immediate plans on acquiring my license. Instead, I prefer to play with my radio (991A) strictly on the receiving end before I take the test(s). Keeping in mind that I will not be transmitting - Do I have to program _both_ the uplink and downlink if I merely want to listen? I worry that programming anything may require me to squeeze the PTT at some point and that just does not seem ethical(?) for lack of a better term. Furthermore, how does one know which 'Tone' setting is required for each repeater? Thank you for the informative videos. I look forward to watching your entire library in triplicate. Stay classy my friend.

That's a heck of an expensive toy to merely listen on ! I also just listened before passing my General, but on a $200 HT :) Did you get your ticket after posting this ? As Hilly Billy said, Repeaterbook has all the info you'll need and, if you register for a free account, you'll have the opportunity to export the data for say, all the 70cm repeaters (or 2m, System Fusion etc) in your county, to a format of your choice. For the 991A, I'd recommend getting RT Systems programming software and you can export your data to the format that software uses. I used that function for programming my Anytone D878, Yaesu FT3DR and my 991A. Couldn't be easier. And don't forget radioreference for all your emergency services frequency needs.

How is the radio for a stand alone 2m 440 rig. I want to get an all mode 2/440 radio and am looking at the icom but this also has hf so that’s a huge difference.

I'll be honest I'm new to HAM I can tell you this radio does great on both 2M and 440 - 50 watts solid - it has all modes and I think you'll be happy with it for the price - good luck look forward to making a HF contact with you !!
