I just done this on my 2021 it worked! In the end, you have to keep exiting out. Wait a few minutes and keep hitting the start/stop button. The dealership said it would be $200. I was very impressed with the tutorial.

Suggest adding a caveat to your Key Fob prg instructions. If you already have a key fob that is programmed and you're adding a second remote, you will have to re-add/reprogram the original key fob because this programming is an overall programming of the key fobs

Question - I recently purchased 2018 Equinox that only has 1 proximity remote and cut key. I see that can go through this process and it will reprogram the existing remote as well as the new one. My concern is that the Chevy has an after market car starter. Other posts warn to expect issues due to that. If there are issues during the attempt to pair, will the EXISTING remote still work if the airing fails on the new one? At what point is the point of no return? Could I have NO working fob to start the car?

Yeah aftermarket car starters can occasionally cause issues. The previous remotes are erased at point where you press the stop/start button for the 3rd time are the end of the final 10 minute interval - right before it says ready for remote 1. If you were not able to program any remotes back into the vehicle, including the one what you already knows works for it then yes it is possible to end up with no working remotes.

Yes unfortunately you need two working, already programmed keys in order to program additional keys - otherwise you will need a dealership or automotive locksmith. It doesn't matter how many keys you buy if you only have one already programmed key you will not be able to do it yourself.

Yes. The original will need to be reprogramed during the procedure as it will be erased. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video - you need to repeat steps 4-6 for your original remote after the new one is programmed.

You just need at least 1 emergency key, they don't all need their own to program. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video - you need to repeat steps 4-6 for each remote after the first one is programmed.

What if you have one working key fob, but ordered another? Do you have to reprogram the one you have?

If your vehicle doesn’t come with a remote start can you buy a fob with remote start and program it ? To turn on from far away?

You cant just buy the fob with remote start, you need the components in your Equinox set-up as well.

@@paulbean8770 Yes, It's an option they charge for from the factory but you can verify that by just trying to use this procedure with a remote start fob - the programming is the same for the fobs with or without remote start.

😡 Did this process several times only because after changing the battery on the original key fob the dash said reprogram key fob. Now it’s stuck on program my fob 2 and the anti theft notification is on the dash. I can eventually turn on the 2019 equinox by placing the original and only key fob into the first cup holder a bunch of times. Then when I shut it off same thing. Program key fob 2 & anti theft notification. Please help

@@PYR-Auto I saw that! Thanks. It was easy to follow. I unfortunately think I have to change my remote. It gives me intermittent messages saying that I don't have the remote key with me and sometimes I can't even unlock the doors. My wife's keys work fine until my keys mess up the connection for a bit somehow. It's wierd. I took it to the dealer amd they just swapped the batteries and reset the keys and charged me 200 for it. This time I'm just getting a new fob. Any recommendations?

other than replacing the batteries or trying to reprogram the fob, which it sounds like you already did both, there's not much else to try in order to fix a remote - you may just need a new one

Remotes should not need to be re-programmed after just changing the battery but in order to program multiple fobs during the procedure, you need to repeat steps 4-6 for each remote after the first one is programmed ( the steps are listed in the description box of the video )

Got my new fob programmed the second go around but now my service security system light is lit and when I get in car dash always says "program 2nd remote" won't start and I have to hold start button 12 seconds and then car will start. 2018 equinox lt

You can't use the same remote for "remote 2" but you can re-program in a remote that previously worked for the vehilce as long as the remote is still good. This procedure erases any remotes that previously worked for the vehicle.
