I'm sure those starting times were only examples but if they were your real watering start times than you could be causing more damage than good by watering in the middle of the night and for a few reasons. First when you water at those times of the night the temitures are often much cooler, which can cause many problems such as diseases, plant rotting, blights, seed rotting to name a few. But most importantly after each warering cycle is very crushal that after that cycle is complete you then need at least 4-5 hours of sunlight & that comes with higher temitures and why this is the most important reason is so you don't have cooler temps that can shock the plants but most importantly you need that 4-5 hours of sunlight to not only dry the newly watered areas out as thoroughly as possible so when your next cycle turns on the soil is almost completely dry so you are not watering soil that is still wet because the wetting of the soil followed by the sunlight drying out the previously watered soil, therefore, has not only dried out helping prevent the issues that I listed above but it will also get the newly seeded areas to dry out to a completion which causes it to germinate at a much faster rate and if your watering sod at night that can cause several types of blights & diseases not to mention rotting of the sod. I am judging this mainly on if you recently installed a newly seeded or sodded lawn. Mainly because if your only watering a couple of days a week than this expensive 4 zone timer is probably not your best choice. I refer most of my clients to purchase a timer like this one if they just spent $20,000 for me to re-seed a new lawn that would require you to water 4 separate areas throughout a larger area, say 25,000 square feet and you would need the four separate hoses coming out of each zone and if your water pressure is good enough then you could run multiple sprinklers on each zone plus you will need to water a newly seeded lawn at least 3 times for seven days a week with your goal to start your first zone at around 6:00 am then giving it a good 4-5 hours to hopefully dry out completely depending on that days whether and amount & temperature of the sun that is doing the drying out between each cycle. Next I would set your next cycle on that same zone for at least 4 & 1/2 hours so that would be 6:00 am - 11:00 am which are the two most important times to water having the most sun and textures ideally in-between 70°-82 ° which will come to a complete drying point or close to it and then you third cycle which I would recommend doing no later than 4:00 pm so you have enough warm sunlight to get the seeds germinating as quickly as possible. It is crucial to do this schedule for the 3 times 7 days a week so your grass comes in as thick as possible chocking out any weeds looking for bare dirt to germinate onto especially crab grass! That shit is the worst although it is only an annual and will dye off in the cool winter months but the seeds from it's previous year will still lay format until the following spring until the soil temperatures reach a desirable temp for crabgrass germination. Luckily your lawn is now almost fully established which usually takes two full growing seasons but that's only if you install your newly seeded lawn with a good starter fertilizer and also re-apply it another time around 25 days after you first seeded the lawk n because what the new seedlings dont get to utilized because of all of the daily watering you have to do for the first 30 + days can often leach the rest of the remaining starter fertilizer below we're the new seedlings need it to be for growing nutrients so you will have to re-apply starter fertilizer around 25 days after the first application. Then you also will need to correctly apply at least another 4-5 more steps of different types of fertilizers, especially with in the first two growing seasons because that's about how long a newly seeded lawn takes to fully developed it's root system. I would consider hiring a reputable lawn fertilizer company if you can find one & continue fertilizing even after the first two years if you want to keep a vibrant lawn. I would also aerate and like every season, definitely like a better alternative that is now available to use for better results and a little more money but is worth it. The aeration can wait every other year if you're on a budget. I would do a spring $ and fall clean up every spring & fall and power thatch every 3-5 years. You don't want to over do that. If you're installing new sod instead of seed I would water only once a day in the mid-morning but soak the sod to a point where the soil is dry the following water cycle. Take sod very seriously because you can lose it very fast if you're not giving it a good soaking once a day along with a good fertilizer program because sod requires more nutrients than seed does mainly because it's grown fully in half of a growing season and it comes accustomed to being fertilizer very well and more often and it could go into shock or is more prone to blights. Also absolutely never water sod anytime. I after say 3:30 p.m. You did a great job on that video and I'm sure umm be checking in if anyone has any questions. PS Has anyone had any issues with getting this timer's valves to close? I've tried the troubleshooting methods but still no luck. Happy gardening everyone. 💦🍁💦 💦🌸💦🍀💦🌻🌿💦🌷💦🍁🌺💦💐🌼💦

Thanks, nicely done, clear and concise. I will check this annually to refresh my memory. I used this unit last summer and was checking on how to reset for next gardening season...How do you reset the unit to defaults? Can you clear each zone to zero by setting time of water flow to zero or do you need to remove batteries for 30 seconds to reset the unit? If possible I would like to see an addendum to the video for winterizing(?) and resetting the timer.

Timer Reset: To completely erase all settings in the timer and return to the original factory settings. Press and hold the OK button for 7 seconds. The screen will reply reset. You will need to press and hold the okay button a second time to change the clock format. Note: All programming will be lost when the timer is reset.

I wonder if you need to set all that up again when changing the batteries
@JOATD2 жыл бұрын
I think if you changed the batteries that it keeps the settings. For specific amount of time. But I don't know how long

The instructions, which are TINY and confusing, say to hook ot up with the water running. Is that right?
@JOATD3 жыл бұрын
No I didn't do that and I never had a problem out of it, I wouldn't do it

Actually the ok button is only used to set the clock and choose water days.

Thanks for that I'll test it out and add that to the descriptions

How hard was it to open battery compartment the first time I can't seem to get it open Suggestions please
@JOATD3 жыл бұрын
You can try to squeeze it together with a pair of adjustable pliers. It shouldn't be that hard just make sure why you're squeezing with the pliers pull.

@@JOATD thank you for your reply Oh my goodness I finally got it Guess it's good to be snug it will keep the water out Thanks again
@JOATD3 жыл бұрын
@@pamelavance648 I'm glad you were able to get it loose and your right that's the reason that it's tight to keep the rain from getting to the battery.

Does it still work good reviews say no?

To be honest with you it worked great, summer spring fall when the winter came the water inside froze up and it damaged it. As long as you take it inside during the winter weather it will be fine

I just got mine and like a dog looking at a new pan . Instructions are confusing . Mine is two outlet , Have a call into Melnor for help programming .

The manual button doesn't do anything when I press it. I'm in auto mode just like you are in this video. Maybe I have a bad unit. I bought mine at Ace Hardware. It's the same exact timer as the Melnor but branded for Ace. I guess I'll just take it back and try a Melnor.
@JOATD3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's weird, I would think if it looks the same it would work the same. I guess some brands have more functions.
@abrotherinchrist3 жыл бұрын
@@JOATD I just got it working after messing with it a while. I think it might have something to do with the max pressure it can put out. If multiple zones are open and the pressure exceeds the max pressure for the timer, maybe it won't let you turn on another.
@JOATD3 жыл бұрын
@@abrotherinchrist well that was actually be pretty awesome if that's how it works. I'm very happy that you got it working. Just remember in the winter time make sure you bring it inside it'll freeze and it'll destroy it

I have 4 of them. The manual function is not available when a rain delay has been set. Set the rain delay to "0" and you will be allow to use the manual fucntion. 🙂

@@jocelyndrolet4610 Thanks! I will try that. I may have inadvertently set the rain delay when mashing buttons.

If you don't want cycle B C or D how do you shut them off
@JOATD3 жыл бұрын
You go to the cycle change the number to zero

And if you never said the cycle they won't go out by default

I bought one and the valves are permanently open, they don't close. Can you help me to solve it?
@JOATD2 жыл бұрын
For whatever valve that is open, set a 1min timer for it. It will open for 1min and then close. Do it for all that are open. That should fix. Sometimes that happens.

Can you only use 2, zones on a 4 zone water timer
@JOATD2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can set it up to use one Zone or two zones or three zones or four Zone. However you would like.
