I have had my 2009 A3 for a couple of years now with only one of the key fobs working. I have tried several guides found in forums to try to reporgram the spare key but none of them worked. I came across this video, tried these steps and wham! its working. Thanks for the guide bro!

Thanks very much for this. for some reason if you don't use your spare key for a while it de-programs it's self. just followed this and it works great. I hear it's quite expensive when you take it to Audi for reprogramming so that's a really handy tip

Had to replace the battery today after 3 years, and the reprogramming wasn't working. It turned out that my key FOB wouldn't work w/ a cheap CR 2032 battery, and so I bought the Energizer one and it worked perfectly, didn't need to re-program. Just a heads up for people who are having trouble. Thanks!

Thanks. Even easier - put key (the one you need to refresh after replacing battery) into ignition and then press and hold Lock as you turn ignition on (no need to start or wait) then off. It's Done! Remove and try - you'll find it's restored to full function! We have two A4's always get them confused..

There is easier way and works even if you have one key. Get in the car, put the key in the ignition,turn it in the first step and hold the lock button for ten seconds. Put it out while your are inside the car and then press unlock and then lock button. Done

Not need if it works. However, if you lose a signal from transponder sometime later than follow the same steps to get it sync with receiver.

Did not work for me. 2008 A4. Tried several times. The new keys is not programmed to the car yet, but the door is too far away for that to be an issue. I saw a video that said that if you take off the battery you will see a set of numbers and one series of them needs to be the same for the remote to work. Also tried a few similar methods here but none seem to work. My replacement key is genuine Audi also. Sigh....

My is 2006 but this works on all models with key entry door. If you have lost a key and have no other keys to make a copy or transfer a code it makes a bit difficult to do this on your own as it need to retrieve code from ECU with a code reader (with USB) you can by form your local electronic store and VAG connection cable via laptop. However if you still have one working key you can buy generic key with built in transponder chip in to the key and follow this video to make this work. Hope this helps

you need to get 'VAG' reader to read ICU code from instrument cluster. this will allow you to extract pin required for recoding both keys.

hello, it's really easy. It happens to me often when i remove the car battery. Just open the car with the key (by inserting in the lock). Put it in the ignition in position one while pressing the lock or unlock button. After that put the ignition in position 0 and press the lock or unlock button. You will see it works just fine.
