This key is also for valet parking. When you give plastic key to the parking personal glovebox and the truck will still be locked for security. Only when you open the car with main key those functions will be available again.

The old Audi s3 use to have one and it’s called a service key so your car will start and work but it won’t let the car go faster than 30mph it was so you had peace of mind when your car was being serviced the people working on it wouldn’t race the car around as it won’t go past 30 mph 😁

I’ve always refer to that as a Valet key (it was handed to me along with the two key fobs at purchase. I also had that when with my previous 2007 A3. It won’t unlock the trunk or glove box and it has a speed limit. Although I never knew it’s referred to as a “surfer” key, especially if you live in the mountains. Lol. Oh well.

This is a well known thing in New Zealand and thieves target them for this exact reason, they break the window enter the glove box and drive your car away. It's that we'll known the police car dealers and insurance companies ask you to remove it from your car, also as far as I know the key has no limitations apart from keyless entry

Also known as a surfers key, when you go to the beach hence why it is made of plastic. You don’t take your key that you usually use everyday. You can swim with it as well by attaching to your swim shorts that usually has a tag in it to fix the key to.

I bought a used Audi, and it came with a broken plastic key and without the fob part. But it seems like the “key” part is what has the transponder in it. So I should be able to make a replacement from it. I’ve already made a 3D printed version of my key that works in the doors and glovebox.

When I was vacuuming the car for the millionth time smh 🤦 love my Audi! Oh & the emblems look clean along with the rims but if your board maybe throwing a little color would be a good change like you mentioned. Champagne or gold is good or maybe the chameleon color that just puts a hint in with the black rims like outlining it to make em pop & chameleon emblems! That way it's not to much & it would be bad ass popping with that solid black. Definitely would be original.

Correct. This key is used if you lose both of your key. You should not keep the key in the car, only the fob part. Keep the key at home in a safe place. Then you can get it if you lose both keys.

I would either keep it in a safe part of your wallet or with a friend that you can call instead of a tow truck. Hiding it on your car is a bad idea. If your car is stolen because you left the key with it you might run into a fight with insurance.

One had a handheld device that within seconds opened every newer car in the garage while the other guy cleaned out everything accessible in those cars. The alarms never went off. Modern cars are actually much more difficult to steal than old bangers. 30 years ago any retard could use basic tools to steal any car. All you had to do was break the door lock and hotwire the ignition. Things are a lot more complicated nowadays, yes, cars can still be stolen but it requires knowledge and specialized tools.

The plastic Key is also useful if you are out surfing and need to lock your car and hide it under the rear fender/bumper or take it in the water with you, which you can't do with your REMOTE Key for obvious reasons and as anyone can open it if you hide it in the bumper. You just need to make sure you leave your REMOTE key at home and not in the. car. Otherwise you need to have a lock box and attach it to something far enough way so you car wont pick it up to open it! HAPPY SURFING!!

I have an Audi now , but many years ago use to have a Ford Expedition that had at the door 4 numbers bottoms keys for a code , so you can hide the key inside do your activity ,like surfing and have piece of mind not to lose the key.

I had a similar height difference side-to-side on my Audi A4 B8 2010. I replace springs and shocks all around and then even swapped everything to the opposite side; I reset all the suspension bolts and even took to a suspension specialist. They couldn't find anything wrong and just blamed 'build varience'. I ended up cutting down the height of the high, rear corner rubber pad the spring sits on and that helped a fair bit. If anyone has any other better solution is love to know the cause and fix.

The plastic chip key is for valet purposes. It opens door and starts car. It will not allow access to your glovebox.

You can lock your regular key in the boot and take the plastic key when you go to the beach for a swim. Just tie the plastic key to your boardshorts or bikini and you can open the car after your swim.

I highly recommend reading it cover to cover... There's a wealth of Information inside, you may be surprised about what knowledge you may aquire about your vehicle such as holding the Unlock Button or Lock Button Open or Close all of the Windows at once (Audi's have had this feature for decades). That key can be used also to lock your trunk. It is used when you have valuables in your trunk and you are giving your car to a Valet Parking. With that key you can lock trunk, back seats that can be open, etc. VW use that key as well. But good that you show the function of the third key etc. Thanks

I just bought a Q7, the salesman gave me the keys and said the black key was a temporary emergency key that is made to break after a couple of uses. He said they used to have a card key that looked like a credit card that was only good to use once. I don’t know, he seems to be knowledgeable about Audis, I just can’t imagine what scenario that would be needed for. Mine doesn’t have the holder though, only the key because I have the switchblade type key.

In a bmw they used to have the same thing with the key carrier in the glove box and a wallet/ emergency plastic key. Their wallet key was intended to be kept in a wallet or handbag so if you lost your key while out you could still get home.

It’s the swimmers key ! It’s can be put in you swimmers or you can tie on With swim chord. Lock yr other keys in, go for that regular morning swim at the beach, or an impromptu swim and keep yr car locked.
