I don't know if you'll see this comment since it's an old video but I've been speaking/singing with my throat my whole life that it hurts every time I speak/sing now. As a solution, since I can't afford a vocal coach/speech therapist, I spent a lot of my time looking for tutorials like this on KZbin but until now I never really get them. Like what is "try to relax, connect with your words, and project your voice"... But anyways, I am so happy to find this video! Your explanation is very clear that I am finally able to understand how it's like to speak from my diaphragm. I felt it! My throat did not hurt when I speak at all while doing the exercises! I'm always known to have a very small/quiet voice when I speak so it's really hard to socialize. But holy macaroni was I loud when I tried it! Thank you so much! Now all that's left to do is to train myself to make this as a habit. Hopefully this can help heal my very very damaged vocal chords too! I've subscribed! Idk if you're interested but I do hope that you'll make more videos on this! Like what other exercises or practices that I can be mindful of! Thank you so much!!

This is the best video that explains how to use your diaphragm to breathe. I've watched other videos on this topic, but this entire time, I've still been breathing from my chest. Your explanation about the stomach being like a balloon and "when breathing in, your stomach should expand" made me realize that. When I inhale naturally, my stomach goes in, so I had no idea that I still wasn't using my diaphragm. My already soft voice gets drowned out even more by masks these days, and people at my job can't hear me and it's very frustrating and embarrassing when I have to constantly repeat myself. I hope these exercises will help me be able to project my voice better. Thank you so much!

I always hear speakers talk so clear and loudly, and I wondered how do they do that cause my voice is grainy when I speak. Tysm for this video, now I know I must use my diaphragm. Also I heard that pun! "I guarantee (Garen Tee) you, vocal projection will be a piece of cake" :) Oh, one question - since your voice is louder and clearer using diaphragm, do you talk everyday like this all the time? Or is it just during public speaking?

Hi Alia, you need to consciously practice using diaphragm to speak. Personally I started using it when speaking in public. Then I apply this in normal conversation. It takes time and efforts to master it :)

hello Garen, Just want to drop by and say that this video was a very helpful practice for me. I would like to ask if when we speak from the diaphragm, are we using our stomach muscles at the same time? And i would also like to ask for advice for pausing to breathe every few sentences to avoid shortness of breathe :)
@GarenTee3 жыл бұрын
Hello SH, personally sometimes I use stomach muscles to assist me doing that. So I would say yes, we do use part of our stomach muscles when speaking or singing from diaphragm. BREATHING is another key in speaking. When and where you should pause to breathe would depend on your speaking style. If you run out of breath easily, then keep your sentence short or train yourself for that breath to last longer. In a long sentence, trick is find a nice spot to have that mini-pause to breathe (without people noticing). Pay conscious attention on your breathing and consciously improve it. Common problem is that people are out of breath at the last few words in a sentence. He/She would sound weak/soft. If you face this issue, then you might want to see at which point you want to have that mini-pause to breathe. Or do some stamina training exercise to make your breath last longer :)

How to know if my voice is projecting from diaphragm because voice comes from throat and it vibrates.
@GarenTee4 жыл бұрын
Before we speak or sing, we breathe first (automatically) to get in air for our vocal cord to generate voice. Diaphragm helps us breathe fully and deeply. I once heard this "Breath is so important for the voice because it is the voice". That's why we need to master diaphragmic breathing to project our voice.

Stammering exercise please
@GarenTee3 жыл бұрын
I have helped a kid with his stammering issue. typically it's due to nervousness or expressing too fast. What the person needs to do is to slow down - avoid speaking too fast, that's first step. Then record down how many stammers in a day and compare from day to day. If there is improvement, that's good. if not then tell himself/herself to slow down further. This takes a lot of conscious efforts to achieve and eliminate this issue. if the situation doesn't improve, it's then time to seek professional help from Speech Therapist. They will assist properly :)

@GarenTee3 жыл бұрын
It's in fact yes. You grasp the idea.
@thevoiceharmonic2 жыл бұрын
It is anatomically impossible to speak from the diaphragm as it is a muscle that only allows breathing in and has nothing to do with breathing out. In particular, when maximum air is expelled, the diaphragm is maximum rounded. Flatness is only achieved when maximum breath. To project your voice will require controlling the voice box - how hard you push, how tight you hold and how much air you let through. This sound is then amplified by the throat space, the mouth space, or the combination of both. Look up my channel for videos. The loudest sounds of 110dB will require the musical combination of resonance and voice box control
