How to Pronounce: Combining Left and Right

Hello! I'm John Russell.
Today, we continue our exploration of common words, phrases, and questions in American English.
In recent lessons, we explored how to ask for directions. We also learned about two very important words - left and right.
Let’s practice using the words “left” and “right” in everyday situations. If you have a phone or computer nearby, you might want to record yourself so that you can compare your pronunciation to mine.
Let’s start. You are going to see an image and part of a sentence. Fill in the blank with either the word “left” or “right” and then listen to me read the sentence.
The car is on the ______.
The car is on the left.
The car is on the left.
Now let’s try another image.
The bathroom is to the ________.
The bathroom is to the right.
The bathroom is to the right.
You might have noticed that our examples today used different short words. You heard “on the left” and “to the right.” You should know that you could also say “to the left” or “on the right.”
