I have doubts about the pronunciation of the word "Cure". I'm aware the this word begins with some sort of cluster /k/ as in cat + /y/ as in yes, so we have /ky/. However, the Vowel sound in this word kind of tricks me up. I don't know for sure if it's /or/ as in more o if it's /er/ as in her. Sometimes I even hear this word pronounced with some kind of /oo/ as in food /kyoor/. It's so confusing. Is there any standart pronunciation or ALL three pronunciations are fine? /kyor/, /kyer/, /kyoor/? What the heck!

I agree--this one can be confusing. I hear native speakers saying both "kyer" and "kyoor", but I would say that "kyor" would be incorrect. An /Or/ sound is never used for a "ur" spelling. Hope this helps! 🙂

Thank you, Lori, for another excellent pronunciation snippet! You are the best. But I've got a question somehow related to this video. Often times, I can hear that "short" is pronounced like "shirt" by American native speakers. Is it that my ear isn't tuned enough to tell the difference between the teo, or is it something characteristic for certain US locations, like NYC perhaps? Thank you! Hi Vepria--thanks for your question. The word "short" should not be pronounced the same as "shirt," so if you're hearing that it's probably a regional variation but definitely not Standard American English.

should the tip of the toungue be touching the roof of the mouth
@pronunciationsnippets21 күн бұрын
No, the American R is made with no part of the tongue touching the roof of the mouth.

Sure this one straightaway lets you discriminate between AmeRican and British, or vice versa🤭

For sure, Alisa! We Americans love our R sounds! 😄
