She pronounces the Duke word is wrong, it is not "D-you-k" , it is Dook . Last but not the least is that, she also pronounces Blue wrong, it is not B-lo-you . it is Blue B-Loo.

Maybe in India, "blue" is pronounced with a "you" sound but I don't think so. ( having lived there) Blue belongs in the category with oo.

I beg to disagree with your sound attribution of some of the words you wrote. 1-CURL has NOT the same sound as BUT or DUCK. It is a very long schwa sound like PURR and FUR . 2- TUNA has not the same sound as BUSH and COULD but it is pronounced as [tjuna] like in TUNE. 3- BLUE is certainly never pronounced [bljue] but like OO in BLOOM or UE in GLUE - long u . 4- Finally u can also be pronounced like E in BED, for example in the word BURY (to inter) which sounds like BERRY. Any good diccionary with the IPA phonetic transcription will clarify your errors.

The sound of tuna depends on the country. In USA they say tuna as in oo, but in the U.K. tuna sounds like you. Your lesson is good but sorry, you should correct your mistakes on this post. I see a few people have commented on the word "blue".

Are you sure about the word "curl" and "cucumber"? shouldn't they be pronounced like /kɜːrl/ and /ˈkjuːkʌmbər/?

Koshka Potselyeva your almost riɡht except there is definitely no r sound in curl and the r is only pronounced in cucumber when it follows a vowel sound, so curl and cucumber should be pronounced /kɜːl/ (kerl) and /kjuːkʌmbə/ (kyoohkumbuh) respectively, plus tuna is /tjuːnə/ (tyoohnuh) but /tj/ and /dj/ in any position are often coalesced into /tʃ/ and /dʒ/ respectively, also blue is pronounced /bluː/ there is no yod in it.

@@gboldero1 Sorry but there is an 'r' sound in the word 'curl'. Cucumber and curl have totally different sounding 'U's. Cucumber is pronounced - queue-come-ba. Curl is pronounced kerl. And before you ask, yes, I am a native English speaker (British citizen).

Very confusing. she doesn't use the The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)

The letter 'u' represents 3 vowel sounds and 1 consonant-vowel combo which is ridiculous. 7M Phonemic English fixes that and assigns the 'u' to just the vowel sound in 'mud', 'duck', 'rug' etc. 'rug' = rug 'půt' = put 'nqk' = nuke 'kyqb' = cube This is how to write English after you kick all of the Clowns out.
