Lots of folks have asked me about when to root cuttings. Propagate your blackberry cuttings in the fall or winter when the plant is dormant!! That is when you will have the most success!

It is early Spring right now where I am, we have growth coming through the fence that I figured I could cut and propagate but would propagating still work right now, maybe less chances? Worth trying since we have to cut that branch anyways. 💚🫶🏼

I wanna say Dude!!! Ah what they heck I’m excited to use this information to grow MORE blackberries, so… Dude, first time viewer and You have impressed me! I will be liking and subbing and of course leaving a comment!😊 I very much appreciate you sharing this information! I LOVE Blackberries, just about any way I can get them but fresh is always the best! This is the first time I have ever heard the advice that one could freeze the cuttings until spring then bring them out to start rooting! It makes sense and is So cool!! Have great and blessed day!! I’m going to be checking out your videos and likely all evening and into the night!! I hope to see a good view of what you have planted in that square patch you’ve got behind you and a better, longer look at your blackberry row or rows! I would have loved it but the switching seemed a little bit jarring. Maybe do like a fade out or something to make it seem more smooth? If it can’t be helped maybe try lingering on the end of the take a second or two before switching. I don’t know!! 😅 Or maybe make the walk and talk solid then switch to the table like you did with

Thank you brother your video was actually very helpful. You did way better than the vast majority of people uploading videos on here. I mean youexplained each part of the process clearly, quickly, & effectively without moving at a snails pace or doing little stupid skits or jokes wasting anyone's time but u also didnt go too fast where we'd have to keep rewinding just to hear what you say & God forbid if we want to take notes. I always have to skip through a bunch of b.s., rewind, or pause a million times with other people's videos not that I don't like long videos/podcasts/documentaries about all of this or people throwing jokes & what not in the mix of explaining but sometimes I just need the information so I can go do it really quick. Also f.y.i. since you didn't make it a big deal or say it over & over but just politely an casually asked on top of the good video I actually did like, share, & subscribe which trust me I quite literally almost never do even just 1 of those but I went ahead & did all 3 for u brother. All I say & ask is keep up the good work & content & maybe return the favor thinking about starting my own channel on here and sharing my "journey" of next years grow season which I'm starting to get everything set up that I can at the moment before winter does officially get here( I live in middle Tennessee about 45mins to 1 hour north of the Alabama border)

Great info. Keep in mind that if you are propagating plants for sale you need to check the parent plant for patents. Prime Ark freedom is a great variety but it is patented as APF-153T from the University of Arkansas. So anyone following along feel free to propagate it but dont sell unless you have the license from the patent holder. You can sell the fruit and leaves tho.

@BaronOBeefDip
@BaronOBeefDip Жыл бұрын
They don't necessarily need a stratification period, but berries (such as blackberries and raspberries) do work on a 2 year cycle. First year the canes grow, second year they produce fruit. So the first year, into the second that you plant a cutting it will just grow. Cuttings can be a little less hardy too, so keeping them indoors or using mulch is a good idea. Keep in mind the growing cycle of these plants and be prepared for it to take a few years to be productive

Went by the local home depot, they just got a shipment of BlackBerry healthy vines in and i was looking at the 2 varieties. One was suitable for my area but when i got to looking, every single one was rooted upside down. Wth? Went back today, about 10 days later, now that variety the stalks are all turning brown and dying off. Bummer. Other variety had leaves and was sprouting out. Just not premium for my area. Musta been a new hire. Idk.

I have a question? You say you are doing this at the end of the growing season. These new Cutting will just be taking hole, when it is starting to get cold. Will the cold kill them if there Planted outside???
@tannerfarmstead
@tannerfarmstead Жыл бұрын
Correct, I’ve found most success taking cuttings when the plant is in dormancy (late fall/winter) and then rooting the cuttings inside. Or else yes they will not make it left outside

You can try but it needs to be during winter when the plant is in dormancy. Cuttings won’t do well being propagated in middle of summer. You can try tip layering tho as another method this time of year to start more plants

I found a small blackberry plant growing wild in my yard. It has thorns, so I know it's not they type sold in stores. I replanted it in a different spot and it grew a bit bigger this summer, but still no fruit. I'm wonder if I could use your technique to get some more plants. After you cut and replanted those stems, do you leave them outside in the winter or bring them indoors?
@tannerfarmstead
@tannerfarmstead Жыл бұрын
Some blackberries don’t fruit on first year vines so that may be the case. No I left them inside to get establishing but I then put them outside when it was nice out during the winter and then neglected them during a winter storm
