This is very well put together. I've learned from this video that "tuna" is not exclusively meaning fish but it's also the fruit of the prickly pear. Lol. Now Everytime I will have tune I will think of Quelc Q. The progress of each plant is very exciting. I was hoping for the 2 pcs that you cut to have roots although one did not produce buds. It's like some people, the progress is gradual , you might not see them do very well externally but they are improving internally. Have a great day.

Good video. And thank for showing proof of waiting for 1 month that it can still grow and propagate. I sometimes doubt other video out there because it just shows how to propagate but doesn't show any end result.

Wear gloves! You can’t see micro spines but you’ll sure find out they’re there…when you do, the tweezers from a Swiss Army knife works well, along with standing in strong sunlight - you won’t believe how painful and hard to see those micro spines can be, so avoid all the discomfort by wearing gloves. Then have fun growing your prickly pears.

Question: I have a non prickly pear that I planted from one Petal two years ago and now he is huge- 11 petals and 21 buds or pups. Should I pull off mature petals and plant them or the buds ? Thank you for sharing.

The only things I'd do differently is not water the pads until roots have formed. Adding water to the soil of a rootless cactus/succulent risks leading to rot. Rootless cactus/succulents cannot absorb water. I would also add more grit to the soil such as pumice, lava rock, granite chicken grit, molar clay non-clumping kitty litter, or extra perlite.

Actually Cacti have cam metabolism. They can absorb water through their pores at night instead of during the day. Some never receive rain only dew in the desert so they do need moisture on the pads. And also that makes them grow roots that seak out the water so 2 reasons you would water that exact way.

Im here for tips, thanks! I am rooting 6 for a winter project. they're currently in dark circulated air scabbing over more. Etsy is super fresh with cuttings lol I live in a very sandy valley so the soil can have 6 inches of water during a hurricane but drain before the eye passes. Thinking of sifting a bunch of topsoil and mixing it half and half with vermiculite to fill some one gallon potters halfway, pack it lightly, then add more vermiculite for the top half, packed lightly... then dip the cacti in rooting powder then stick it in deep enough to stand and wait. The topsoil and washed vermiculite should be plenty of moisture for rooting.
