In my experience hanging plants do not like to hang if they haven't rooted yet. It is better to lye them down in soil like it is their bed.

I killed my string of pearls by repotting it, so now I’m trying to save the rest that is left by propagation. 🌝✌🏻

First of all, watch ALL you videos and you have been an amazing resource! I have a desperate question for you though regarding pearls. I have two very large ones and they are sooo easy to care for. I have never had a problem but recently, I had a run in with mealy bugs so one of the plants I sprayed neem oil but I can't get it off of the leaves and I am scared it will die. I have tried soapy alcohol water and while it killed the bugs, the pearls are sticky and I am scared it is blocking its photosynthesis. Secondly, the other plant was only the alcohol water but because I had recently watered it an now had to soak with alcohol and rinse daily until the bugs were gone, my pearls are showing random water-filled and rotting pearls. How can I save it?! I am restarting from both plants just in case but don't you have to bed the stem under the soil and then wrap it around on top of the soil for it to root? Meaning, the end we remove a few pearls from has to be embedded in the soil correct? Can we just lay the entire strand over the top without burying it? I do not want to loose these as I have worked very hard to grow them as large as they are but the neem oil really took a toll here. How can I fix rotting pearls, how can I propegate safely, and how can I get neem oil off?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've tried both ways. I killed it!😢 they turned white and moldy looking, no matter how much or little I water them. They also shrivel up. 😮 I guess I need to go get another and try again. 😊

When do you first water them after placing your cutting in soil?
@nicogs972 жыл бұрын
You want to fully water it only after It fully grows roots. If you water it as a cutting the water will just sit there since there’s no roots taking in the water. This is dangerous since it can cause the plant to rot. The pearls have enough water inside them that they can last a while with no water. A good way to know if they need water is if they start getting wrinkles or shrinking. You can also touch them and if they are sticky it means they need water. In that cause you can just spray them with water using a spray bottle.
@noemitellez30982 жыл бұрын
@@nicogs97 so let the cuttings sit on dry soil until they look thirsty ?
@nicogs972 жыл бұрын
@@noemitellez3098 Yes, or you could just spray them with water but not get the soil too wet because you don’t want them to rot. Once they establish roots you can fully water them.

I put several stems from a friend's plant into a pot using this method. (Twisted off pearls along 3" of stem and inserted the stripped ends into soil.) The remaining pearls are "shrinking" and there does not appear to be any new growth. I have been keeping the soil moist, but not overwatering. I know an established String of Pearls plant requires very little water. Is keeping the soil moist still too much water when trying to establish a new plant from stems?
@ninetails9612 жыл бұрын
Everytime I’ve seen people do cuttings the soil was dry and they would just mist the top. I’ve taken that to mean that they require very little water but still need that misting from time to time until they are established. I could be wrong but that is the consistent thing I’ve seen through a lot of channels
@MaruyaSAg3 жыл бұрын
If you plant the string of pearls like in 0:49 where you just place the whole length on top of the soil, will it produce a "branch" at each node? If yes, then, if someone is starting with just a limited number of "strings", that would be a good way to get an even growth, albeit it would be slow and would take a long time before there are going to be strings "flowing" over the pot.

Many thanks, again! I don't think I've ever seen a YT video with almost 70 likes so far and no dislikes LOL I was wondering if you've ever propagated from a single pearl. I have bananas, read that it could be done, and have some rooted, but so far no movement. I'm wondering if they needed stem material, as many succulents do, and these may have broken off without any. I found these singles in the soil of my plant, so I have no idea how close to the stem they may have broken off. Thanks again and love your vids!

When the soil is completely dry , the roots don't like being damp as this leads to root rot . Don't water more than once a week 😊
