How to Propagating Fuchsias on How to Grow a Garden with Scarlett

Today I'm potting up a few fuchsias branches that broke off a large fuchsias plant a few weeks ago. I tossed a bit of willow in with the cuttings and let left them alone in a cup of water for two weeks.

Love the fushcias. There is a lady in the west of Ireland who has a giant one in her garden as a perennial shrub. If you have too many you can bring one when you come visit ;) ♡

I live in Zone 10b? (On The Coast in Northern California) and I have a huge Perennial Fuchsia Bush that we have had forever that I keep having to re- tie to my fence because it’s so heavy...I may need to trellis it and am going to try and propagate some cuttings this year since it’s due for its annual trim! Amazing too since it’s in the North side of the garden and gets partial to full sun here but gets so many blooms, probably because it’s stressed from all the sun!

@@HowToGrowAGarden - Once my big fuchsia was ready for a pruning I took a few cuttings as you recommended and put the cuttings in water and they propagated really well even without the willow since I didn’t have any. (Used rooting hormone instead.)

Any kind it doesn't matter all willow contains Indolebutyric acid (IBA) the fresher the willow the better but again even an old twig will help the process along.

I take cuttings every year in spring and fall. I sell and give away the little plants, hand them all around the house and keep some in the greenhouse as back ups. I will make a follow up video and take a look at last years cuttings which are starting the bulk up with spring leaves.

Indolebutyric acid (IBA) is a plant hormone that stimulates root growth. It is present in high concentrations in the growing tips of willow branches. 😊

I've seen cinnamon used, also honey, aloe leaf gel, and saliva. Any others?

so honey works as a natural rooting hormone because it has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. it doesn't speed up the rooting process the way the rooting hormone found in willow will. - Indolebutyric acid (IBA)

Do I need to dip the fuchsia into the root hormone before putting it into water? Thank you for sharing. I love fuchsia but all my fuchsia plants die in the summer 🥴🥴🥴

You do not need to dip the cuttings in a rooting hormone but it will help.

taking cuttings is a very delicate and very finicky undertaking. i recommend talking notes and truing again. *remember your tools must be clean.
