With lots of manufacturing jobs coming back to the US, and many factories banning wristwatches for safety reasons as well as mobile devices for security or RF reasons, I definitely see pocket watches making an unironic comeback.

This is exactly what I need. In my job I can't use a wrist watch because of my work gloves, I can't bring my cellphone because i don't want to be seen as getting distracted and wall clocks are unavailable. A pocket watch is what I need to keep track of time so I don't miss my lunch break anymore 😅

I use the "T" bar most often when wearing one of my pocket warches. I put the "T" bar through the button hole from the outside so the bar is on the inside the push the button through the hole as usual.

The small pocket on jeans was meant to be for a pocket watch. Levis added it in the 1800's so cowboys wouldn't break their watches. That's where I carry mine, on a memento mori chain. Never even considered isolating the watch from the chain. That wee bit of leather is a brilliant idea, same with the button piece.

I'm 65 and have been wearing pocket watches daily for 47 years. That's everyday!! Started in high-school around 75 and couldn't get enough. My grandfather got me hooked on them when I was a kid. I just thought they were soooo cool. And still do. My first ever, I was about 9 yrs. and got a Bulls Eye dollar watch for Christmas. I have several good watches now from both centuries and all working in top notch shape. Well good chatting with ya. P.S. I just wish more people would wear them again. They'll pull out a cell phone from their pocket to check the time, but not a watch. Sad !!

Awesome comment! I feel the same way about people coming back to pocket watches! Hopefully these videos will bring ore interest - they are a fantastic piece of machinery and you don't have to have them updated on buy a new one every few years because of some sort of dysfunction! As long as you clean and serviced, they will last longer than you! Thanks for watching!

Hey Rick, I'm a 20something and carry a pocket watch for my white/blue collar tech job. Wristwatches can snag on machines in the shop and there are areas where devices that transmit or receive RF are strictly forbidden. That said, my use case is pretty rare. The next time you see kids pulling out an iPhone and idly scrolling to show off in front of one with an old cracked Android, remember that top hatted businessmen were doing the exact same thing at the train platforms of 19th century America, checking the time on their full-jeweled Illinois right in front of the farmer with his Dollar Ingersoll or Swiss knockoff. With public schools getting more and more dangerous, younger children and teens are starting to buy chains and kevlar(!) cords that lock to their phone's charging port and connect to a belt loop. Time is a flat circle.

I have a 3/4" stainless steel split ring on the front belt loop on the right side of my jeans. The chain is attached to that and it is really secure. I also have the same set up on my overalls. I put the split ring through the hole in the flap of the bib. I carried a pocket watch most of my career as a locomotive engineer for Conrail and NS. I have a Hamilton Railway Special 992B with a Montgomery Dial.

I just bought a Great American Railroad pocket watch ! Brand new in the box from the 1970’s era . Bought it at a resale shop in Texas , for $15.00 . The grandfather was a railroad man . This is made in the USA from a Bradley Company , division of Elgin . It had a broken link on the chain , which I just had repaired at a jewelry store . I’m looking forward to wearing this wonderful find , so thank you sir for the tutorial ! Peace ☮️

On the belt hook chain, put the hook up the inside of the belt and hook it. That way if you lean on something that pushes up on the hook, the chain is still behind the belt the hook and chain doesn't just fall. If the watch falls, it will still have something it is connected to. I had mine pull the hook back on the belt when I almost dropped it.

Came across this video looking for creative ways to carry my Tissot Savonette and was not disappointed. I have a small keychain with a skull on it and just carry that around sometimes. Other times i use a stainless steel chain i made out of an old necklace. I sure wish i knew where to get stainless steel bow clips and spring rings. Nearly impossible since everything is made of plated brass. Anyway thanks for sharing. I love pocket watches!

I have daily carried my Hamilton 950B in 14k gold filled case for 69 years as of 2023. I have always used a chain but never the piece of leather you show and talk about. If there are scratches they are not visible to naked eye, if there is any wear to crown or chain it is at best minimal as cant be seen with naked eye. My watch and chain are all origunal and are daily carried 69 years as as of this year 2023 and it runs for many many years at +/-0 in 24 hours but since early 2000s its maintaining +/- 1 second in 24 hours. It is properly maintained daily with regular clean oil adjust by a certified lisenced Professional Watchmaker basically every 2 years but sometimes more frequent depending on the environment its been exposed to.

This is an excellent video. I have watched it three times. I am a big fan of the bow protector. I make my own. I do one thing different. I get aluminum eyelets at a craft store like Hobby Lobby and they come with the tool to flair them into a rivet. These keep the holes from becoming oblong and distribute the weight of the watch more evenly. With the tool, these are maybe 4 bucks. Again, great vid.

Most of those pocket watch chains that you buy today have split links that are not soldered or welded and the end loops always pull apart I'm looking for a good quality solid chain with a good clip and a good strap end, I usually use ball chain with a solid clip on the belt and put the chain part right through the bow, where do you keep the key right around the chain I usually use a separate short chain and put the key through it and threw the bow so it's all together. Always 100% stainless steel ball chain.

I wear a pocket watch most often when we are doing a historical costumed event of the 18th and 19th century. 18th century pocket watches were notoriously unreliable and were more decorative then funtional. The most common architectural finds around where a taverns was are clay pipe bowls and pocket watch keys.

I surely did learn some things especially about the leather piece that keeps the watch bow from getting scratched, but there is one thing that I don't agree with though. At about 8:18 in the video he says that if you have a T bar and wearing it with a vest you have to leave the button out of the hole that the T bar goes in. That is very false as I have never had to do that, nor have I ever seen a photo modern or historic of a man wearing a watch chain with a vest with a T bar that didn't button that hole.

Another wonderful video! This one was really great, but I am still clueless how to wear a particular pocket watch chain I have 😄 The reason is, it simply has a small lobster claw knife at one end, and the the loop to attach to the watch bow at the other. Then, along the chain is a free-traveling gold coin holder. I've seen many with T-bars and then a fob hung from a small length of chain also attached to the T-bar, like the one you showed. However, I've never seen any where the fob is just on a ring that freely travels up and down the chain, and I'm not really sure how you'd wear this. I'll figure it out someday 😂 Thanks for the great content!

I have a leather pocket watch holder that cover completely the pocket watch which is attached to my belt. My Coin silver pocket watch Is a 1912 Illinois. I have a thick British silver chain on it. At the end of the chain I have a 2017 Walker dollar .999 silver coin in a holder . That I use as the fob. I put the coin fob in my right front pants pocket extending the chain to my watch in the leather pouch on my belt. I wear my pocket daily. But I also Wear a 1949 Omega Tresor on my wrist . In my pocket is My IPhone which has an app connected to the atomic clock. Since I want my pocket watch and wrist watch daily I can adjust it daily. The pocket watch looses a couple minutes daily . I guess I could adjust it but it is good enough for me. My 1949 O mega Tresor is a seventeen jewel manual wind watch . It stays accurate with a time adjustment only every three or four days . Which I Think is amazing for a watch that is 75 years old..
