I think this covers a very crucial part of Learning that a lot of us sort of run into and not realize we have done. The sort of self taught method, while completely valid and awesome, sometimes has us copy pasting code and we don’t even understand. Basics can be over looked, and not even realizing that you don’t know what to even ask or what’s gone wrong can be several magnitudes of knowledge above you. For example, in scripting, coming at it as an artist and trying to slap your character onto an already made character controller and not even having the foggiest idea of why yours doesn’t move. Anyway thanks for coming to my run on sentence. Excellent and concise explanation as always.

It took me YEARS before I had to courage to ask for help online. I learned a lot on my own, but there's so much more I can learn just by asking people. I know the internet can be a mean place, but there's plenty of good people that are happy to help too.

You touched on some great fundamentals that can be applied to a broad range of professional communication. Being concise (while providing necessary context) and maintaining a respectful tone goes a long way.

Royal this tip is actually really helpful to me. Because I am horrible when it comes to asking for help amongst my gamedev friends/artist friends. I'll definitely keep this tip in mind whenever I need to ask for help.

Well said! But another thing: if you discover the answer to your problem on your own, PLEASE don't just leave your question up or put something like "Edit: Fixed it nvm :)", it screws over anyone else who might end up in your position in the future! Especially when your question is so high up in the search results for whatever reason! Instead, share the solution you found, it'll be greatly appreciated. tl;dr: If you fixed the problem yourself, share your solution too please!

Genuinely good video, thank you! You already help us enough, and now you're teaching us to help ourselves! But genuinely, I truly appreciate all the help you've provided me and many of my game dev friends, from Blender to Unreal Engine and more. I am curious, would you make a video about Vehicles and how to make the player character enter/exit them?

Also, almost every question you're ever going to ask has probably already been answered. Always spend some time looking for the answer before asking a brand new question.

one time i bought a 7900 GRE GPU and it kept crashing in games (driver related error). i pestered about AMD on recents related video and the OG big youtuber responded in 3 min to help on which was NOT a demand for help ! actually awesome and on point advice, supposed user error so we did a weird chiplet driver install as suggested. AAAAAAANND ... STILL crashing differently... i hate AMD now ! swapped back to a 4070S and the dude got it running without any help from me. JUST DOWNLOAD the exe and run and then driver instal... why AMDON'T ? but that was a really sweet experience to get help just like that !

You should do one of these for feedback. I see a lot in discord communities people ask for feedback and nothing. Some get it some don't

Nowadays it also seems, that many new users don´t want to search, they just ask something, that has answered already plenty of times, and even worse, to which plenty of tutorials and solutions exist on KZbin and other places, and Google will happily show them, IF they just would type that same question into Google or KZbin search bar -.-´

Make your title clear and specific, but not too specific, there is an optimal point in the middle. I used to make my titles super-specific, and never got any responses, I guess the title had a detail and everyone said "I know some of that, but not that one config / use case / etc" and gave up

I could do with this vid. I'm a 45 yo coper/coder and I've asked for help maybe two times during my entire career. Probably less. Could well be that's why I have no career anymore 🙃

Also important: When you get it working, answer your own question with how exactly you did get it working. Because that way, all the others coming after you don't even need to ask.
