Hi Karen! Forgive me if you've already answered this question!!! For the lye heavy soap you forgot the olive oil in, are you going to rebatch that soap? And if you are, are you thinking about doing a video discussing rebatching? I'm assuming it's cutting into chunks, melting, adding the missing oils and then... heating it in a crock pot? I get so confused with rebatching. It would definitely be a wonderful beginners soaping video on down the line.

Omg this is an issue I have had since I started soaping. Its the fragrance oils and micas plus labels, ink etc that get me. Thanks so much for getting this on a video, it makes things easier.🥂🤔🍫

You're complicating things hon. Olive Oil is 7.50 for 2 kilos. 1000 grams per kilo so 7.50 / 2000 = 0.00375 per gram. You need 240 grams so 0.00375 x 240 = 0.90. So you equation would be be 7.5 / 2000 x 240 = 0.90. You're also not including your Adjusted Cost. Using an old order here it was $131.48 USD; $117.28 for the ingredients, $14.20 for Shipping. One the ingredients I purchased was 2 lbs of Shea Butter for $15.98 USD, but my actual Adjusted Cost was $17.91 USD when you factor in the cost of Shipping. So Shea Butter is $17.91 for 2 lbs, 16 oz per lb and I need 3.30 oz so my cost for that ingredient is $1.84 USD (17.91 / 32 x 3.3). You are absolutely correct when you say that doubling the cost of your ingredients as a sales price is wrong. An uncolored, unscented bar of soap costs me approximately $0.87 USD in [adjusted] ingredients. If I charge $1.75 per per bar, I will get back the cost of my ingredients, but what about the cost of packaging and labeling? And what about the cost of labor...soap doesn't just magically appear...someone has to weigh the ingredients, mix them, pour them, unmold them, cut them and package and label them. These are your Direct Costs or COGS (cost of goods sold) and now my bar 'costs' at about $2.50 so at $1.75 I'm losing money. But then there are your Indirect Costs or Expenses. This is the money you spend every month regardless of whether you sell a single bar of soap like rent, electric, water/sewer, garbage, insurance, license, phone, taxes, supplies*** and advertising/website to name just a few. *** - Supplies should not be confused with Assets. Supplies are short-term items like gloves, dish soap, paper towels...stuff that is used up within a short amount of time and/or stuff that doesn't cost a lot. Things like bowls, measuring jugs, spatulas can be listed as Tools/Equipment under Expenses. Purchases like Molds, Stick Blender, Soap Cutter/Log Splitter, Scale, Laminator. Printer/Label Printer...those are Assets are are depreciable and not included in your costs.
