Successfully burnt 29 acres of timber last year on March 6th. Finished prepping for a timber burn this year, but has been too wet to burn. Hoping to next weekend. Just one question, have you guys ever conducted a burn on native grass in the growing season like in August or early September?

Absolutely you can, and should if the area is dominated by grasses and your goal is more forbs!

I saw that you had some downed cedar trees with brown needles still hanging on them within your burn unit. How do you work with these? They look like they could go up into a bonfire situation and easily carry the fire high and hot, possible jumping a break if too close. I have this same situation as I had been cutting cedar trees to open the canopy and create nesting cover, and I worry about burning this area.

You just have to be careful. If you're worried about them you can remove them from the site. Once the needles fall off after a year or so on the ground, they are less of an issue. But, you are right in that they will go up quick and hot. So just make sure they aren't piled up around valuable timber trees, or close to fire breaks, etc. Other than that, light em up!
