Just diggin up my HOSS Yukon Golds and French Fingerlings! delicious. I highly recommend the fingerlings....I fertilized once in the beginning and didn't even hill them just kept them watered and covered with spent hay. They did awesome. I like how strong and solid their top growth is even. Average 5-12 potatoes per plant.....with little care. Plus studies show the red and purple potatoes are the healthiest because of the high anthosyathins in them. Winning! 🥔

Excellent work Hoss and Hossettes 😄 Greg, my taters vines are HUGE and just starting to flower. The batch I dug 2 weeks ago was a bust? I may have got back what I put in. They too were beautiful plants. But, this round, I'm going to watch for the vines to fall and see what we get. I was always told to wait until the vines were dead. Not this time. When those babies fall. They are coming up.

I planted taters for the first time this year and I'm so nerv-xcited to see if I got anything, the plants are big and seem really healthy, I planted in containers and watered today before I watched, we expect rain this weekend so maybe I'll see about harvesting Friday.

Our Potato crop was hit by two freezes and two heavy frosts, so plants look like short dead weeds. Kicked around one plant and there were some golf ball size ones. So this week will be digging in the patch and seeing if anything else made it. South Carolina Zone 8. Also lost all our plumbs and most of the peaches. Corn ,beans pumpkins watermelons are looking good though. PS: The multiplying onions we bought from you are looking FANTASTIC!

Ayyyy I planted 3 35' rows in my rear garden and another 35' in the side garden. Yukon Gold Kennebec Red Norland Dakota Rose (only 8 seed) Russet Burbank 1 row was dedicated for Fingerlings - Magic Molly, Russian Banana, French Fingerlings and Pinto Gold - Fingerlings are proving to be the fastest growing of the lot, I have started running out of media to hill with as a result lol.. I am hoping I can get some hay soon before they topple over 😐

Hey there GrandPappy - on that first tater pull, did you BLIND the girls with the potato soil dust? They cracked me up with their reactions, but not a peep or complaint from these little darling girls!!! Are these the same adorable girls who planted french fries for potatoes with you? Cute as buttons! Thanks for the potato tutorial- we had a crib in the cellar (dirt cellar floor) where we stored our tators, and when digging in for a bunch, coming out with a mushy rotten really bad stinking tator was an unforgettable experience.

Planted red potatoes this year and harvested a couple of weeks ago. I put them spread out in my basement which has between 40 to 60 % humidity. They are starting to get soft. Will they last to be used for seed this fall? I live in mid SC.
@gardeningwithhoss2 жыл бұрын
good question. You may have to move to a different location with less humidity
@articmars12 жыл бұрын
Can you dice them and freeze them? Our humidity is way to high here to store properly and. I don't have a barn lol.

My 2 cents about potato varieties for zone 6a/6b/7a, East and Southeast MA: Early - Dk Red Norland, not the best storage potato but early!, Mid - Kennebuc, be careful of the thin skin but stores well, Late - Kathedin, great storage potato, Very Very Late - Russet Burbank - takes longer to cure but excellent storage potato.
