Thanks for this. It's the first video that showed how to measure the amount of pipe that should be thru the clamp

I have done thousands of break lines . This time I was trying to figure out why my flares are not coming out right. Probably just in a hurry and didnt realize I was using the wrong side of clamp lol. Thanks. Great demonstration by they way thumbs up bud

Ahahaha yeah I made the mistake forgetting to put on the fitting. Cut it off flared it again to find out I forgot it AGAIN lmaoo. Awesome video man it's great. I did this with my brake line. But I came back to confirm that I could do it with fuel line also without leaks with a flare kit if done properly. Thanks man (liked video)

Hey thanks for this. One of the brake lines sprung a leak and ordered a new one but it's taking too long. Ordered the kit and line / nipple locally. Pretty sure they will get to me first. Armed with the parts and this video I might actually have the car fixed before the part order actually comes in.

The OEM metric double flaring tool kit includes adapters (4.75mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm & 10mm). I'm doing a 3/16th brake line. Both the 4.75mm and 5mm fit in the 3/16 line. Which should I use? Converting inches to mm, 3/16 = 4.7625. However both adapters fit. Would I get a better flare using the 5mm? This is a one time shot, doing it on the car in a tight working space with the short end of a line that broke off. If it doesn't come out good, the only other option is to replace the entire line front-to-back with lots of bends.
@4DIYers3 ай бұрын
I would use the 4.75mm. If you have a piece of scrap line, maybe use that as a test instead. Keep in mind, a flare can get messed up even if you're using the right sizes. Best of luck, hopefully it works out!

I gotta borrow that tool again. Apparently, the two lines that go to my rear brakes are leaking up front and didn't double-flare those lines as it's a PITA to flare under the car with no wiggle room.

Is there a different flare nut between a single and double flare? Or do they both use inverted flare nuts?
@4DIYers6 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the application, this website explains it well racetrackdriving.com/tech/brake-line-flares-metric-sae-inverted-bubble/

Any tips on getting both sides flush when clamping. I always have one side higher than the other making my flare lopsided
@4DIYers5 жыл бұрын
Use a good quality flaring tool, make sure the jaws are clean so it cleans down on the line, remove any burs on the cut line, make sure the line cut is square, and add a drop of oil to the flare dye.

You're talking about the die? Those are just based on the line size, the little dowel is based on the inside diameter of the line.

This is a question. First, the set up: In another vid, the presenter used red rubber grease because such is compatible with brake fluid, and using it prevents contamination to the brake fluid. This seems overly particular for such small amount of grease one would use, then wipe off, perhaps even, using brake fluid. So here's the QUESTION: how about using brake fluid as the lubricant on the tube and flaring tool tip?
@4DIYers5 жыл бұрын
It's such a small amount, I doubt it would ever make a difference. You could always wash the fitting with brake cleaner just to be safe. Brake fluid does have some lubricating qualities, but be extremely careful not to get it on the paint. Some brake fluids are worse than others and can damage the paint.

Have you tried a fuel line compression piece. Fuel is not high pressure like brake lines.

You did not sufficiently show how the second half of the flare is to be formed.
