How to properly give a guinea pig a bath feat. Pash

~PLEASE READ~
the burt's bee baby shampoo is safe for guinea pigs when you are only bathing every 4-8 months, if used frequently it may cause irritation to their skin. I do not recommend bathing monthly - only when necessary.
top tips for bathing:
1) Avoid getting soap or water on the head, eyes, ears, or nose. Instead use a damp cloth to clean these areas if needed.
2) Use a guinea pig safe shampoo gorgeousguineas...
3) Make sure you dry off your guinea pig extremely well
DISCLAIMER: This is just my way of giving my pets their bath, there are many different ways to give a guinea pig a bath. I find this way works best for me :)

Guinea pigs hear a tap a billion times louder than we do. It's frightening. It's better to have measuring jugs full of lukewarm water at the ready and just use a sink or basin with less than an inch of water in the bottom to contain them.

If some of you are wondering what type of shampoo to get for your guinea pig, try the brand "Squeaky Clean". It works really well and conditions their fur too (: I think you can get it at petsmart or petco!

I had guinea pigs on my own and know much about them. All of them turned about age 6. It was really rare that I had to wash them and I only did when they were really dirty and smelled badly. They didn't like it and one of them died because of the stress of washing. Pretty sad. I have to say that in every book about these pets is said that you should NOT bath them if it isn't really necessary. It's stress for them and unnatural. They can swin for sure but in wildlife they don't have to. What would you think if some big hands grabble you like that and you have no idea why. Don't do it and don't call it cute, it's wrong.

I had a guinea pig who enjoyed bathing. He was caged at night, but most the time he just hung out around the house with us. He lived to be almost 8 years old, and we got him as a baby. If I went into the bathroom to take a bath, there were times he'd climb the side of the tub (we had little stairs for him every where) and he'd hop in to swim in the bath tub. If I took him outside, he'd always find puddles. (he was leash trained.) Like the above comment said, some of them enjoy the water!

@AnimalLoveBug101 Only bathe a very pregnant guinea pig if absolutely necessary. Otherwise wait until after she has delivered. If she is not very far along in her pregnancy it wont hurt her to have a bath, just be sure to completely support her tummy. You may want to use the other bathing method and just have her in a shallow pool of luke warm water for her bath, this way there will be no strain on her stomach. :)

I have 5 guinea pigs right now and used to have as much as 10 I bathed my Guinea pig when she was a baby but I was young and didn't understand what risks it came with. They are not used to water so It Induces a lot of stress and wouldn't recommend it for your guinea pigs especially young ones or babies. It's really rare for guinea pigs to die from a type of stress like this but if they get stressed out a lot then I definitely would not bathe them I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND DRY SPRAY ON SHAMPOO FOR GUINEA PIGS

@valdasb94 as far as bedding goes for a guinea pig i would suggest using either fleece or a paper based bedding, such as Boxo or carefresh. I have used both and like each of them for different reasons. Using fleece is less expensive in the long run, but it does require daily clean outs. I wouldn't suggest keeping a guinea pig in hay/grass or straw because they will just end up eating it. If you need to know more about using fleece I have a video on how to properly use it :)

Aww, what a cutie! I would suggest bathing your guinea pig in a bathtub with just a BIT of water (only in level of their feet) on top of a towel, mostly because in a sink while the water is running, at first the sound of the water coming out might frighten guinea pigs. So i would prefer having the water set already in a bath tub! Just my opinion :)

You will have to go to a vet of some sort, because the outside of guinea pigs, male or female are the exact same, the vet will squeeze something and if it is a boy their privates will bulge out some how.

bath time for my guinea pigs is always a challenge... both are Abbys , Iris is patient and lets me finish bathing her, but Daisy is another story. with Daisy, it's war from start to finish. i always win, but she fights me every second... she even bit me once.

Some books say baths shouldn't be necessary for GPs, and they can be overdone by over-vigilant owners. Every week would dry out its skin and invite problems. But sometimes these guys get dirty and/or smelly--perhaps due to letting the cage go uncleaned for an over-long period. And a piggy can easily get its nails "encaked" by hardened poo (I first thought it was a fungus or growth). That's a good time to clip his nails and to let your little guy walk in luke-warm water for a while. Then simply wipe or scrape off the objectionable material and return him to a cleaned cage. (Wish my little guy was as well-behaved as the bather in this video.)

Please reply, I think that baby shampoo is alright for guinea pigs to use. their not even that bad. Baby shampoo is really good makes the hair/fur soft. If it doesnt hurt the baby it wouldn't hurt the guinea pig and by the way I dont know whatt to choose some people say use baby shampoo and some say no. Goshh

What I like to do is set them in a pool of lukearm water up to their legs and gently pour water from a bucket over their back (not head) and rub them so they they wont be scared :) then i wash their head with a wet towel. But this was is good too, thank you! :D

Relax people I've had gp's for decades. Bathe them once every 3-4 months using this method and a tiny amount of baby shampoo. Never had one die after a bath,have skin issues,all have lived between 6-8 years. How did any one or thing survive before the Internet told everyone how to do or not to do something haha. No. Bathing guinea pigs is not good. You can wipe its butt with a wet wimp without shampoo or soap. That should be enough. You can also feed it cucumbers. My guinea pigs smell beautifully after they ate cucumbers. *_* But usually you don't even have to wipe their butts. They can clean themselves, especially shorthaired guinea pigs. The most important is cleaning its cage.
