Very good explanation…getting in a hurry can cause mistakes ,take the time to do it right..have multiple sets of tires ready just case time is a factor..

When we had to run street tires when I was 11 on the pro 4 asphalt late model back in 2003 or 4 we would run my dirt tires for the pro 4 dirt modified. In both cars they had Ford 2.3s stroked out to a 3.0 making 370 hp to rear wheels and turning 11k rpms but after my first season on that class we got two brand new esslinger motors abd wow they was bad to the bone turning 12k roms abd made 430 hp to rw. a couple laps just enough so the dirt green dots would feature up abd sharp on each drive edge like he is saying. So it's easier to feather them like that then with a grinder abd you get practice Laps in the asphalt car on open practice nights during the week I would then clean them very well and cool them rapidly with water after they was hot abd feathered abd wrap in plastic wrap till it was time to hit the dirt track that weekend or following day after asphalt night abd they would hook up so nice and last so much longer on the right rear and win lots if races doing that and worked perfect and looked better when compared to a gribded tire side by side. When I told tech guy what I did he couldn't belive it worked. You can only do that if you race asphalt abd dirt is the only problem.

What I don't understand is why you would want to sand the tires in the first place. Doesn't that take life off them?

It brings the tire to life. The shiny stuff isn't grippy so you take a layer through friction which creates heat and makes the rubber adhere to anything. Once you've taken a layer off, it will have more grip off, the bat, instead of driving it around for a few laps to have the same effect.

Because it takes the glaze off the tires and it sharpens the leading edges

You not trying to save tires, you're trying to win races. The whole point of racing, or maybe I'm missing something.

Now does Mr Shryock still use or recommend using the 7 inch carbide tire grinding disc? Or is this something that he has steered away from using?
