I have never heard of stretching those retainers like an acordian in my life and in a retired mechanic of over 50 years and built many engines and many other things that used those retainers and never one coming apart

I remember the first time I messed with spirolox... It was many years ago at the engine shop.... The "old guy" who was the founder of the shop and was about 75 or 80 laughed like hell when I was trying to take them out....(Once you get the hang of them they come out almost as easy as they go in.) - He was also the same guy that showed me how to put piston rings on the "wrong way" - LOL!

the feeling is mutual I watch his videos religiously he is one of the best, on You Tube I don't like nonsense I want straight forward reasonable and knowledgeable and he fits the profile yes spiral lock I know I call them poly locks that is just a habit I worked with an old timer machinist for many years, and he always called them poly locks It's just a bad habit I picked up from one of my mentors

Thanks for your support I have been a huge UTG fan for many years I love the way his mind works; I have actually learned allot from him especially about Mopar's. If I had to pick 3 people to be in a room with to solve complex problems, he would be one of them

I disagree. All I ever do is separate a very slight amount just the first winding by inserting my finger... then insert the tip of that first winding into the receiver groove then use my fingernail to work the rest of the windings in. And oh yeah.... both Pistons and the Rod small ends require some "pin-Fitting' prior to assembly, both EAGLE and SCAT reccommend .0009" to .0015" depending upon application ? I basically just follow Machinists rule of thumb @ .001" Clrc per Inch of shaft/pin, sb = .0008/9" clrc, BB = .0010/.0011" Clrc, Mopar/Hemi .0011-.0012" Just say'in... to each their own I guess ?... but I've literally done thousands my way and never had a problem nor the need to stretch them out like an accordian.
