Rob, this is one of the BEST videos I have ever seen made! Aside from the great information you provided, your cadence and tone makes this video very easy to follow and understand. Also love the thorough content and special tips. Fantastic video, thank you! I have used this tutorial and it helped a lot.

It's essential to thoroughly clean the face of the hub and then spray with break cleaner to ensure a perfect flush fit. In most cases the vehicle will not be as clean as the Jeep in this video. Also it's vital to put a dab of 'Locktight 271' for threadlocking (or similar product) on the threads/nuts retaining the spacers. Then coat the inside face of the spacer with copper grease to prevent a reaction between the steel hub and aluminium spacers - galvanic corrosion/electrolytic reaction. Many wheel spacers are not powder coated (as the ones in this video) and even if they are, the thin coating won't be impervious to the elements and road salt over time. So it's just good practice to use copper grease.

what the actual hell.....HOW can people be so divided? Ive read from pros that RED LOCTITE is a terrible idea on lug bolts since they will be a pain in the ass if you want to remove your spaces PLUS the only thing that matters is TORQUE in the nuts, not red LOCTITE....other people swear by it like in this video....jesus christ how come we have no clear answer about something so critical?????

@positronikiss if you're not strong enough to break it loose then just say that. But loctite makes the chances of the nutts not backing off better It's no big deal dude
@nicholasrussell-pavier912

If you’re not strong enough to break the locktite bond you probably shouldn’t be trying to change a wheel. In reality it doesn’t take much strength and there’s less chance with two sets of nuts holding on each of your wheels that they could become loose. An easy and sensible precaution it seems to me.
@devlinsemmler8236
@devlinsemmler8236 Жыл бұрын
No need for loctite, you don’t put loctite on your lug nuts when you mount a wheel do you?
@nicholasrussell-pavier912
@nicholasrussell-pavier912 Жыл бұрын
That's because lug nuts, or wheel nuts, are visible and their tightness can and should be checked from time time. Obviously you can't do this so easily with spacer mounting nuts without removing the wheel. A common sense safety precaution really.@@devlinsemmler8236

6:10 MAKE SURE NONE of the bolt studs stick out beyond the end of the adapter/spacer (DO NOT DO VISUALLY!! IF CLOSE) by taking a ruler or something hard and flat like a square and slide over the top of the hole/stock stud to see if it catches or nicks the stud, if so, you MUST grind down or hack saw them shorter (just as I am having to do right now, UGH!) The REASON WHY THIS IS SO IMPORTANT, because if one or more studs just barely sticks out, it will make the newly mounted wheel off balance just ever so slightly which will not only become a headache later on trying to troubleshoot, but CAN BECOME VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!

U could always stick a screw driver in the rotor, when u put the bar between the lugs u possibly could mess up the threads or least put the bolts back on to protect the threads. Great video tho good knowledge here much appreciated.

Why red thread locker? Those are permanent thread lockers. When you need to change your rotors, how you will be able to remove those nuts? I would probably blue kind.

6:10 also should clean the surface area prior to installing using a metal wire brush and brake cleaner and then possibly coat the newly cleaned metal with WD-40 or similar as a way to prevent rust build-up IMO (In My Opinion) but don't quote me.

You should put the nut first b4 you put the prybar to torque it down ...so that you wont damage the thread.... but you did a good job 👍👍👍
@PCPAyLOAD
@PCPAyLOAD 4 жыл бұрын
While the pry-bar method does work I'm always afraid of damaging the threads. I cut a piece of oak to fit in between the bolts for tightening. Much easier in the threads.

You can put the nuts on the studs and do it that way and then put the pry bar over top of the nuts that way it doesn't damage the threads. And when you're done just take the nuts back off

The Quadratec spacers are already hub-centric, so the stress between the wheel and the hub is carried by the center of the hub, not just the lugs. I guess not all spacers are like this, but these don’t require any added rings.

Yes. Just like the wheel hub, the lugs on these adapters are pressed in from the rear. If you need to replace a lug, you need to take the adapter off to push the old lug base out and install the new lug.

Won't double checking the torque on the studs at 50 miles break the thread locker bond?
@Quadratec
@Quadratec 4 жыл бұрын
When checking the torque, you're not going to over-tighten them, so it shouldn't break the thread locker bond. Just verify with a torque wrench that all the lugs are still where you set them when installing. If they move before you reach the appropriate torque, that's a sign that they've already loosened up.

@ResilienceOnPurpose
@ResilienceOnPurpose 4 жыл бұрын
Not a good idea. The style of plate that is merely sandwiched between the wheel and rotor, without its own set of studs, have given wheel spaces a bad name because they fail. They are in fact illegal in many places. You need to have at least as much thread engaged into your lug nut as your stud is wide, minimum.

Does nobody use anti-seize? I thought that was the way to go when installing spacers so they don’t stick to the hub
@adriano9105
@adriano9105 3 жыл бұрын
Good point, I do. Use anti-seize on both the front face of the adapter/spacer and on the side where it meets the wheel hub - especially if one lives where salt is spread on the roads. Avoid spreading anti-seize on the lug nuts. It's highly recommended to steel brush off any rust on the wheel hub before applying anti-seize; doesn't have to be shiny as when off assembly line but must be smooth to the touch.

This type of “spacer” should actually be referred to as an adapter. Spacers are typically sandwiched between the wheel and hub and not bolted to the hub itself essentially just shortening the length of your studs. The spacers used in the video are as safe as using a wheel with different offset as they are mechanically part of the hub once bolted on
@devlinsemmler8236

Oh please. Give it a break grandma. There is nothing unsafe about spacers if they are good quality and installed properly which applies to all parts. Mechanically speaking there is ZERO difference between spacers and negative offset wheels.
