I have never had anyone explain folding a fitted sheet so well. I think I can do it after your demo. Thanks. I'm 74 & when I first married 55 yrs ago, I ironed the 2 top sheet & the pillow cases. I didn't have fitted sheets then. And I always hung my sheets outside on a clothesline. The best smell ever. Love all your videos, I always know I'll learn something from a young man that this elderly lady didn't know.

I'll be 74 next month and was (what I thought was) thoroughly trained in all the 'housewifely" things, including proper bed-making. Imagine my surprise when in my 50's a new friend who worked in homecare told me I'd been making beds wrong all along because I was taught to put the right side up on both sheets! Been doing it the "right" way ever since, but it only really matters if the top sheet has a decorative edge or is printed.

I didn't use my mouth but I did the same shaking method. He grabbed the pillow and pillowcase and showed me a much easier way by holding the corners with the pillowcase inside out and simply putting the pillowcase over the pillow with so much easier. I called my mom right away lol So not everything. Our mother's teach us is correct

I love his concept of making ourselves "feel fancy". I'm one of those people who struggles with depression etc & it's definitely difficult to make my bed some mornings but he's absolutely right, keeping the bed made, along with a few other basic household tasks that could feel mundane, those things add up to helping us feel so much better. I loved the Emily Dickenson poem. What a nice way to elevate this task.

I truly appreciate these simple lessons of life being shared because many parents or guardians are busy doing all they can to support their children they forget to teach them the simple things. I have been a single mother for many years and now disabled, so doing things like this that feel a little fancy feeds my soul and makes me feel as though I'm caring for myself and honoring myself in the best way. You are SO right. I was trained, as a nurse, to make a bed exactly as you made yours. However, in those days, 55 years ago, there were no fitted sheets, and I much prefer no fitted sheet. As you mentioned, we were truly trained to make the bottom sheet fit SO tightly, a nickel was bounced off the surface and if it did not bounce high enough that it could be caught in mid air, the sheets were ripped off to the mattress, and we reaped it until it was perfect. I still make a bed that way, and love it. Everything you teach, Rajiv, is an ART FORM, and thank you for that, you are a joy to watch.

as a nursing assistant, we had a whole lab dedicated to ""properly"" make a bed for people in a long term care facility, and watching this its fascinating to see the differences. the big thing that stuck out to me was the pillow. in a medical setting the pillowcase is more utilitarian so there's almost never a hem decoration, so there's no reason to put the hems out. in fact were incuraged to do the opposite, turning the hem of the pillow away from the ""entrance"" of the bed and folding any extra fabric under. that way the pillow is more likely to stay in it's case, even if the person who gets into the bed has mobility issues and ends up dragging past the pillow during a transfer.

The joy of a clean, well-made bed. I've always made my bed, every morning. My mother taught me hospital corners. I turn my wool mattress regularly, and NEVER shove my sheets and duvet covers in a crumpled mess into the airing cupboard. There's nothing more inviting than the look of a clean bed at the end of the day when you're tired or fed up. Turn back the duvet and climb in with a good book or a good podcast or whatever, and even if you can't sleep, at least it won't be the shortcomings of your linens keeping you awake! Sometimes the simplest things make me happy, like hearing birds chipping, listening to the rustle of leaves as the wind blows through them, seeing a rainbow, hearing the tap tap and of rain on the sidewalk, and I believe that Rajiv feels the same. Simple things are big to me. I love how you speak slowly and how you show the world different aspects of how to accomplish mundane tasks into a very clean and orderly fashion. Simple things are big to me !

I love Rajivs presentation and info, it just backs me up, i had people ask why do all that, and here it is, clear as water!!

My grandma used to do that tucking the pillow. It was a whole ordeal for her. Like an art in itself. She would literally take an hour just making the bed, flatten every nook and cranny. This brough back such joyful memories. Thank you very much Rajiv

My first job when I was younger was a CNA at a Adult Day Health Center. That was were I learned to do a hospital bed tuck and implemented it straight away at home. When my career changed, and I moved several times I stopped practicing it and listening to the very critical family members that said why make it, it’s just going to get messed up? There is truth to that but no VALUE to it. I do remember the pride and refreshing and comfort to drifting off and an over all better rest. Thank you for the reminder of the little things you do that really make a difference!

OMG I am glad I found your channel. I too love beautiful things. I am 65yrs young. I have finely have gotten my home where I want it to look. I also was raised poor. My mom taught me that just because your r poor u don't have to have cheap stuff. She taught me to save up for the best money could buy because it would last me longer. And was she right. Also she taught me once u have the best that money can buy u have to take care of it. Which brings me to u. 2yrs ago I lost my daughter to cancer and I have given up on taking care of my home and beautiful things that I have. So with u saying making your bed every day helps with depression, I can see how it helps. Over the yrs I have collected a few really nice bedding sets which have cost alot. I love a nice made bed but since my daughter has passed I have not really made my bed or taken any joy of seeing a nice made bed. I just want to thank u for waking me up to what I can have again as long as I take the effort again to start enjoying the simple things in my home once more. Thank you .

A suggestion for the duvet and duvet cover: sew ties in the inside of each of the four corners of the cover and sew small loops on the tips of the corners of the duvet. That keeps it from shifting while you sleep. It also makes it easier to get a larger duvet into the cover in the first place (Rajiv's way works well for smaller beds, but not so much for larger beds - or for smaller people!). The rest of the video brought back wonderful memories of my granny, who loved hospital corners and folding the coverlet over her pillows!

My mom taught us to make the bed just as you did with the pillows covered with the bedspread or put in pillow shams. It really feels good seeing my bed made up every morning. I had a time when I was very ill so just having enough energy to make my bed, even if I had to get back into it brought me comfort.

Here I am at 9pm, remaking the bed just to get in and feel a lil more fancy tonight. I had no idea the second sheet goes on inside out, it makes total sense and I’m kinda excited about that part (after doing it the “wrong” way so to speak for decades.) Who would’ve known making the bed could be exciting like this?!?! Only Rajiv 💚

Hey Rajiv, next time you triple fold the duvet at the bottom of your bed, do the fold so that you just reach down and grasp the top of the edge facing you and as you lay back down it will easily and neatly slide up too. 😊

Hi Rajiv. Loved this video so much. I also have a tip for the bed. For those who have fat fluffy pillows, first begin with your pillowcase turned wrong side out. Then slip your hands into the case and line the closed end up on one end of your pillow. Slide the pillowcase up over the pillow until the pillow is completely inside the case. And wha la! It’s so much easier this way to put your pillowcases on a fat fluffy pillow than trying to shake the pillow down into the case. Please keep your videos coming?!! ❤

Hopefully you'll take this with the same spirit as the instructions Rajit gives, as I intend it that way - a little secret to help you look more polished: the familiar expression you used is spelled "voilà," which means "look there" in French, not "wha la."

I enjoyed this video so much! I first learned to make a bed by watching my Grandmother make her bed. I then became a candy striper when I was 15 and was properly trained in Hospital corners. I then worked in Hotels as a first paid summer job when I was 16 at the Jersey Shore. People have always commented on the way I make a bed. I too love to iron my sheets. My Aunt was the person who taught me that! I am 66, and still love a well made bed!

A few comments. If the comforter is a queen size or larger it is best to turn the duvet cover inside out and lay the comforter onto the duvet cover. Then tie the ties inside the duvet cover to the comforter. Then turn the duvet cover back right side out. So easy. Also the pillows should have pillow covers. Feel for the zipper on the pillow cover. Put the zipper side of the pillow into the pillow case first so the pillow cover ziper is cushioned with the seams of the pillow. A very enjoyable video.

I used to iron my sheets all th tie. When I had a B&B in Vermont, not only did I iron them, I starched them, rolled them up and put them in the refrigerator overnight. Then I ironed them. When I made the beds for the guests, I sprinkled rose petals on the sheets. I mostly only had guests in the summer and fall because the guests were eventers with horses. By the end of the day, after grooming, riding, cooling, grooming again and putting their horses to bed for the night turning home and finding rose petals on their pillows and sheets. they felt not just cared for, but treasured. It was so much fun doing that.
