We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney

nice job we have the opposite problem and water moves toward the shed. I have had to create drainage away from the shed and geotextile to keep the gravel from just sinking into the clay.

When you are not on top the hill, water runoff is an issue! We've also invested a lot of time and expense in diverting water away from our buildings!

The clay and material that comes from the ground when digging a pond here in Florida is great when it hardens but, like you said when wet its some slick stuff, I covered my will shell rock then millins. It makes a great base. and around the house and shed after I leveled out the clay I come back with some #1 fill to have something better for grass and plants to grow in. On you box blade, have you tried putting the rippers down a few inches, that should help break up that clay. Mini ex looks fun though!

We have a whole series of this driveway build coming out over the next few weeks. It came out great but took way too long and cost way too much!

I have a backhoe for my tractor that would likely work almost as well your mini-X. But for those that can’t afford some of these more expensive options, do you think a shallow tilling would have worked? My thought is it would loosen the surface and make the removal of the overburden quick and easy, but I’m not sure it would be as precise on depth control. Nicely done and it pays to think through a project like you did (you called it apprehension) so that you mitigate any potential issues. It’s the end result that really matters.

This clay is rock hard when dry, so I think it would have just ate up our tiller tines. This project took many weekends, so you will see me try to box blade another area and have to go back to the excavator. Thanks for watching!
