Brain B on this straight razor sense it's a shoulder-less razor it's just for comfort when i'm shaving. But on most of the straight razor that have a shoulder it really aids in the honing process to allow the razor lay on the honing stone in a flatter manner. Great question, thanks for the comment! :)

Great question Louis! ;) The short answer is no. When setting the bevel you need the spine and edge touching at the same time to get the proper bevel angle on your razor. Like the videos - am reconditioning my Grandfather's old straight razors - ( German & English.... great steel !! ) Does the copper really help with the arthritis ??? Or is it just for decoration ? just wondering -.... thom

Yes, both the German & English steels are wonderful and the copper is for arthritis. I've had many broken bones in the past and the copper has worked well for me for over 30 years. Thanks for watching and good luck with the restoration! :)

Great question Johnny! ;) They're inexpensive razors and the geometry isn't always the best so they do what they can and just send it out to you. But that makes them great straight razors to learn how to hone on for sure! Thanks for your great question and comment me friend! :) #Heart

Slightly misleading title there. Rounding off the toe & heel is purely a matter of personal preference and you do not “need” to do this as prep for honing. Just saying for us relative newbies out there the whole subject of honing is complicated enough without adding to the confusion.

Well, it would have been more helpful if you could have explained why you were cutting off the heel and toe ...and how you knew how much to cut off. As it is you showed us how to use a dremel on your razor without the why.

Thanks for the videos. As a newbie, it is odd that you save the surprise reason for doing what you are doing for the end. I have made no videos, but I would start out with in order to hone properly you must Dremel off the heel and toe. Here's how I do it.

Totally unnecessary. I hope others dont try this as well. If you want to shape it, and I can't understand why, then use a stone like a DMT 325 not a dremel.

@@AdventuresInWetShaving Yes, a stone is much safer and you don't risk overheating the blade. I have seen people use a Dremel and it caught the blade and destroyed it and sometimes injured the user.
