Thank you so much. I looked high and low to find a good video explaining the service of a Dynas Jiffy. Your video was terrific. It was so informative and you are detailed on what you are explaining. Looking forward to your other videos. Joe

Dude, thanks for making the video. I didnt come to see the servicing. I had taken my bike in for a leaking fork repair and a 15k service and the kickstand was "funny" afterwards. Before it was stiff and honestly i didnt mind. Probably covered in grime. When i picked the bike up it was well... "loose" i guess. At least to me being used to how it was. It was probably from the deep clean they had to do to get all the oil that sprayed all over the bike from the front fork. So i got down to take a look at it and was like, "no way that spring just sits on a grooved pin like that, must be something the previous owner rigged up." Because my wifes sporty and my old road king hook into a hole in the frame. So i ended up finding your video, same year and model bike, and sure enough, grooved pin. So thank you for helping answer my bizarre question man.

I called harley to get a quote on fixing my jiffy stand the guy on the phone roughly quoted me $260. I did this for the cost of a spring. Thank you very much. The diagram in the shop manual sucks. And for some reason after searching for a day and a half I came across your video thank you!

That is the best illustrated and comprehensive instruction on removal service and installation of the Dyna jiffy stand I have seen yet. Not to mention the coins in the coils of the spring simplifying its removal/installation. Brilliant. Now to the garage. To my Low Rider to service mine. Thank you I am now a subscriber.

Nice one - thanks for that, my 2010 model Streetbob hasn't had a fully retracting stand for years and I really should do this. Now I know how !

It doesn't seem like a big deal, but once it's working like it should, it's nice. Mine would make a groan noise when leaning it over because the pin needed to be cleaned & relubed. Nice & quiet now.

@@bluesriderDF I never had that problem, it is just that the stand does not 'flick up' and stay up like it should. I looked at it years ago and despite following the Genuine Harley workshop manual, I cannot get the stand/block assembley to 'drop' out of the frame. Today when out riding the spring came off the boss on the frame and was just hanging off the stand, with the stand scrapping the road ! I got home and lifted the bike up but still cannot get the stand/block assembley off the bike, so I used the coin trick on the spring and refitted every thing. With the stand up - as in when riding - I just pulled the spring off the frame boss !!!!!!! Time for a new spring I think , some time back I rebuilt the engine ( 113 inch monster now ! ) and had the opportunity to attend to things then as far as cleaning and lubricating things but forgot all about it. I think that maybe I have caused the problem myself :- when I rebuilt the motor to a 103 inch engine about 8 or 9 years ago I used a Mikuni carb and ditched the EFI. That left a lot of wires and sensors that I didn't want so I took them off - including the jiffy stand sensor. There is a little doo-dad that operates the sensor that is held in by a bolt that I may have loosed and if that has fallen down it may well be causing the problem.... I will get the bike on my lifting table when the Sporty is off it and have a good look.

@@bluesriderDF Mmmm, well thinking about it the stand cannot dig in to the road surface as it is so long if you think about it. I am in England and we have this nanny-state that says we have to have jiffy stand sensors, part of that sensor - the bit that moves with the stand - is what the trouble is. I only had the bike in a front paddock stand with a flat-jack under the tranny so I douldn't see much but there is I am sure a way to get the stand off - even if it means removing the primary drive cases. That may be happening this winter as I think the tranny main bearing is failing (again ! ) and I have a Baker Drivlines' twin opposed taper roller kit that I think I will fit as the standard bearings seem to not be able to handle my 'enthusiastic' riding of my much modded bike - over 130 BHP and torque type modded !

@@thakery5720 Actually I saw a video of a stand that came down when riding. Guy was leaning right, stand came all the way down. When he straightened up it was in lock position and he went down. But probably a freak accident. Glad you are OK. I figured you were not in the US since you mentioned the sensor. 130BHP sounds like a fast bike!

How do you load a new spring off the bike? That looks like the way to go. BTW Torque value for that bolt is 19 ft-lbs. for 2005 Dynas. Thanks for the vid!

I like your site and demeanor. A couple of suggestions, when tightening the jiffy stand nut, I would think that due to it being a critical fastener, a torque range would be helpful? Also, the area of the catch would also benefit from a good cleaning and a coat of anti seize. Thanks for your time.

How much wife Room/play is there when that block is on the kick stand? Any up an down play on it? We’re having an issue. And it seems like there should be a washer to prevent up and down play. Thanks
@bluesriderDF
@bluesriderDF Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I follow you. If you are on the bike and you lower the stand, before you lean it onto the ground, you will see that you can pull the stand up towards you. Which is the same amount of play as when you lower the bike onto the stand. Once you have the bike resting on the stand you can rock the bike forward it and back a very small amount, but that's it.
@bleugate

@@bluesriderDF well this bike we have has an extended kick stand, with the oem pivot block. When the block is installed onto the stand while off bike, the block has some play. Prob 3/16”. It can rotate just fine. But seems like it shouldn’t have any up and down play on the kickstand stem. Thanks for replying.

if my professors had even half your ability to explain things, I would have been a different person by now without a doubt. anyway, I have a dyna fat bob FXDF with a kickstand sensor. Would the technique be the same? because I tried but I can't get it to come out...maybe because the stand has to be retracted? it's the only thing I haven't tried because being alone, the central lift doesn't allow me to close the stand completely
