Awesome explanations. You don’t recommend placing the kayak up right right? Vertically on to a wall ? Not good for the structure is it? Its a sit on polyurethane kayak
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
I personally don't even though you see it at the stores a lot. I like to think how they were designed... I am sure the engineers didn't give much through to the kayaks ability to withstand the weight of the kayak on end for long periods of time. You can likely get away with it for the short term.. but I would not recommend for a long term solution
@imperialwhovian34618 ай бұрын
@@wendellfishingid guess if someone really needed to store it upright sit it on some semi soft foam so the entirety of the hull is supported to reduce that chance, personally that's what I do with mine but I also keep it rigged but it's in a safe place free from mice or other unwanted critters

Question if you will kind sir. Is it okay if I stored it on my trailer with a tarp over it and bricks holding the tarp down? It is stripped down to the plastic. And I have loosened the straps so they're not tight
@wendellfishing2 жыл бұрын
There's a lot of variables in that question. How is the hull supported? The overall idea is that you don't want prolonged pressure on parts of your kayak that were not designed to support it.

Question for you, if you don’t mind. Is it okay if I store my kayak in my garage (where the temp stays between 40 - 70 degrees) and resting on gym floor mats (the cushy kind)?
@wendellfishing Жыл бұрын
Hey Charlie... you will likely have no problem with that setup. If you are going long term.. like you are not going to touch it for 6 months.. then I would turn it over and allow it to support on the gunnels.. but with weather in that range all of the time.. it doesn't sound like you have a down season!
@toulee8458 ай бұрын
Question - you said not to store it on the kayak cart, would that also mean not store it on a DIY cart that has PVC tubes for the hull to sit on? Seen a lot of youtube videos of those. Or is it better to have it on top of a flat surface, like a regular ol plastic table?
@wendellfishing8 ай бұрын
short term you should be fine.. Long term storage could propose issues.

@wendellfishing2 жыл бұрын
No backlash boss.... I'm not saying that if you store it deck side up this will 100% happen to you. But there is enough evidence out there that says it it at higher risk. Glad you haven't had any issues and hope you never do. And if you have no choice... you got what you got!

If you shouldn’t hang your yak from the handles, how should you hang it? What damage does it do?
@wendellfishing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. if you are hanging.. I would recommend using straps to support the hull in two places. You may get away with no damage, but handles weren't engineered for long term storage and could crack on you. As dumb as this idea sounds….. I just picked up a new town sportsman 106 paddle only. Would storing it indoors upside down on a padded mattress be ok or would deck side up be better? What’s your thoughts on using the mattress?

I wouldn't overthink it too much... this is a long term storage video... like months without touching it. If you are fishing every weekend, a mattress is not necessary
